Google Says Won’t Track Individual Web Activity for | Sidnaz Blog

Google will not build or use alternate tools to track web browsing traffic once it begins phasing out existing technology from its Chrome browser next year, it said in a blog post on Wednesday, in a move that will reshape how online advertising works. Google first announced that it would get rid of third-party cookies, which for decades has enabled online ads, early last year to meet growing data privacy standards in Europe and the United States.

Privacy activists for years have criticised tech companies including Google for using cookies to gather web browsing records across websites they don’t own, enabling them to develop profiles on users’ interests to serve personalised advertisements. Now, Google is pledging it will not use other technology to replace the cookie or build features inside Google Chrome to allow itself access to that data, though it continues to test ways for businesses to target ads to large groups of anonymous users with common interests.

“Keeping the internet open and accessible for everyone requires all of us to do more to protect privacy — and that means an end to not only third-party cookies but also any technology used for tracking individual people as they browse the web,” Google said in the blog post.

Earlier this year, Google unveiled the results of tests that showed an alternative to the longstanding practice of using user-tracking cookies. The company claimed that it could improve online privacy while still enabling advertisers to serve up relevant messages.

“This approach effectively hides individuals ‘in the crowd’ and uses on-device processing to keep a person’s Web history private on the browser,” Google product manager Chetna Bindra had explained in unveiling the system called Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC). “Results indicate that when it comes to generating interest-based audiences, FLoC can provide an effective replacement signal for third-party cookies.”

BJP should tender apology to people of Telangana: KTR | | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: TRS working president KT Rama Rao said that the BJP leaders should tender an apology to the people of Telangana for failing to bring Information Technology and Investment Region (ITIR).
In a statement, KTR, who is also IT minister of Telangana, said BJP Telangana president Bandi Sanjay was trying to mislead the people on ITIR project.
Referring to the Union IT and electronics minister Ravi Shankar Prasad‘s statement in the Parliament that the ITIR scheme has been shelved in the country, KTR said that the BJP state president Bandi Sanjay was unaware of this fact and this shows his ignorance.
“Bandi Sanjay’s letter on ITIR is a bundle of lies. He wrote the letter to gain publicity through media coverage,” KTR said. He fired at Bandi Sanjay for writing a letter that is misleading the people of the state.
The working president said that the ITIR has not gone ahead even in Bengaluru though it’s the same party that runs the government at the Centre and Karnataka. “Apart from Hyderabad, the ITIR project was sanctioned to Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and Karnataka but has not seen any development in any of these states. Is the TRS government responsible for no development there too?” KTR asked.
We will provide all the letters written to the Union government since 2014 and also the Detailed Project Report of ITIR to Bandi Sanjay. Does he have the power to get ITIR to Hyderabad?, he said. If the Telangana BJP has any sincerity towards bringing ITIR to Hyderabad, they should make the union government announce it, the minister said.
I challenge Bandi Sanjay to either bring ITIR or a project equivalent to ITIR to Hyderabad, said KTR. He also added that the BJP has disappointed the youth of Telangana who have been waiting for ITIR to become a reality.

Telangana: Singareni Collieries sets a target of 700 lakh | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has set a target of producing 700 lakh tonnes of coal production and its transportation in the 2021-22 financial year.
The SCCL chairman and managing director N Sridhar gave instructions to general managers to ensure that at least 2 lakh tonnes of coal is produced per day in March and April 2021. They were told to follow all quality and safety standards and norms.
At a review meeting with the general managers and directors held through a video conference from Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad, the SCCL chairman and managing director said it would be difficult to sell the coal if quality is not maintained in the present competitive market.
“There should be no compromise on safety but ensure there are no constraints on the costs. Measures should be taken from now itself to face the challenges that would arise due to the ensuing rainy season. All areas are to be ready to achieve a record 700 lakh tonnes of production in the coming financial year and also cover the losses incurred by the company due to Covid-19 pandemic,” Sridhar said.
Stating that the demand for Singareni coal is increasing as Industries are recovering gradually after the pandemic, he said none of the coal mines are to be closed in the ensuing fiscal. Also, the target is to gradually increase the coal production from the new mines. “The conditions are favourable for at least 700 lakh tonnes of coal production and its transportation. All areas are to be ready to achieve targets from this April itself,” Sridhar said.
He requested all the GMs to come forward with unique proposals to achieve targets and solve problems.

Epic Games Buys Fall Guys Developer Tonic Games Group | Sidnaz Blog

Epic Games has announced that is acquiring Tonic Games Group, the developer behind the blockbuster, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. Epic Games is currently best known for its battle royale game, Fortnite, apart from past titles like the Unreal and Gears of War franchise, and also recently, the Epic Games Store game distribution platform. The terms of the acquisition are still unknown but it is the third party to join Epic Games roster.

Announcing the acquisition in a blog post, Epic Games said that Fall Guys will retain its original gameplay. It echoed Tonic Games’ statements from last month, to say the game will soon be made available for Nintendo Switch and Xbox along with PC and PlayStation. However, it will be interesting to see how it pans out in the future since Fall Guys is built on the Unity Engine that is a rival to Epic Games’ own Unreal Engine.

Both the companies said in another blog post that there are no plans to make the game free-to-play. However, the PC version of Fall Guys may be available may be available on Epic Games Store sometime in the future.

Dave Bailey, Tonic Games Group Co-Founder and CEO, in a statement said, “At Tonic Games Group we often say that ‘everyone deserves a game that feels like it was made for them.’ With Epic, we feel like we have found a home that was made for us. They share our mission to build and support games that have a positive impact, empower others and stand the test of time and we couldn’t be more excited to be joining forces with their team.”

Alongside, Tim Sweeney, Epic Games Founder and CEO, said, “It’s no secret that Epic is invested in building the metaverse and Tonic Games shares this goal. As Epic works to build this virtual future, we need great creative talent who know how to build powerful games, content and experiences.”

In other Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout-related news, it recently became the most downloaded game on PlayStation Plus game and had more than seven million purchases on Steam. The game takes inspiration from classic TV shows like Takeshi’s Castle and It’s a Knockout, where players clumsily navigate through a series of life-or-death mini-games, which bring a breath of fresh air on the oversaturated battle royale gaming genre. Epic Games recently acquired the video calling app Houseparty as well as Psyonix, the developer of Rocket League – the football game played with cars instead of humans.

Steel Exports To Remain Low Amid Rising Domestic Demand, | Sidnaz Blog

The country’scrude steel output in January was at 10 million tonnes

Steel exports from the country are likely to remain low over the balance of the fourth quarter in the current financial year, due to continuing strong domestic demand and robust realisations in the economy. According to credit rating agency India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra), the finished steel exports in January 2021 totaled 0.58 million tonnes, down six per cent month-on-month and 16 per cent year-on-year as producers focusing more on domestic sales due to robust demand. During the COVID-19 lockdown phase, export volumes were at 8.84 million tonnes, up 23 per cent year-on-year, according to the report.

On the other hand, the finished steel imports were higher by two per cent month-on-month and 8.3 per cent year-on-year at 0.52 million tonnes in January 2021. The country’s finished steel imports between April 2020 to January 2021 were at 3.79 million tonnes, registered at 37 per cent lower year-on-year due to COVID-19 restrictions. Also, the reduction in import duties to 7.5 per cent from 10 to 12.5 per cent earlier on all the semi- and finished-alloy and non-alloy steel products must have a stabilising impact on the domestic supplies and steel prices in the near term,

The report by the rating agency said that domestic hot-rolled coil prices corrected by three per cent in mid-February to Rs 53,750/ million tonnes, but are still 40 per cent higher year-on-year. The domestic flat steel prices have decreased due to the rising inventories.

The recent import duty reduction on steel scrap is likely to benefit the secondary steel producers and the temporary suspension of countervailing and anti-dumping duties should bring some stability to steel prices and supply. However, the country’s crude steel output in January was at 10 million tonnes, about two per cent higher month-on-month and seven per cent year-on- year.

Covaxin 81% Effective, Works Against UK Variant, Claims | Sidnaz Blog

Covaxin has completed only two of three required trial phases (File)

New Delhi:

Covaxin is 81 per cent effective in preventing Covid and can work against the UK variant of the virus, Bharat Biotech said Wednesday as it revealed Phase III trial results for a vaccine that was cleared in January amid concerns over its safety and efficacy.

“… Covaxin demonstrated 81 per cent interim efficacy in preventing COVID-19 in those without prior infection after the second dose,” Bharat Biotech said in its statement.

The company said the “first interim analysis is based on 43 cases, of which 36 cases of COVID-19 were observed in the placebo group versus seven cases observed in the BBV152 (COVAXIN) group”.

The data has yet to be peer-reviewed.

The trial, which began in November last year, involved 25,800 participants – between 18 and 98 years old – across 25 sites, who were randomly divided into two groups. The participants included 2,433 people over the age of 60 and 4,533 with co-morbidities.

One group was given the vaccine and the other got a placebo.

43 people (seven from the group that got the vaccine) were found to have coronavirus.

Interim analysis also showed that severe, serious, and medically attended adverse events occurred at low levels and were balanced between vaccine and placebo groups, Bharat Biotech said.

The company also said that “analysis from the National Institute of Virology indicates that vaccine-induced antibodies can neutralise the UK variant strains and other heterologous strains”.

Trials will continue to final analysis of 130 confirmed cases in order to gather more data and evaluate the efficacy of the vaccine, the company added.

Data from the third stage of trials – which measures the vaccine’s success in protecting against the coronavirus – has been widely anticipated amid concerns over Covaxin’s safety and efficacy.

Covaxin is one of two Covid vaccines to have been cleared for emergency use approval by the government – the other is Covishield, which was developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University and is produced by Pune-based Serum Institute.

Covishield has an efficacy rate of 70 per cent after the second dose.

Both vaccines were cleared by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) in early January, at a time when late-stage trial data for Covaxin was not available; it was cleared on the basis of Phase I and II data that confirmed its “safety and immunogenicity”.

Covaxin was given “restricted use in emergency situation in public interest”, meaning all those who were administered the drug as part of the vaccination drive were enrolled as part of the study.

The criticism prompted an emotional pushback from Dr Ella, who said: “… don’t accuse us of inexperience. We are a global company… have manufactured 16 vaccines…”

As the government launched the national vaccination drive on January 16, many expressed reservations about being given Covaxin, particularly since a choice of vaccines was not offered.

Doctors from Delhi and Karnataka were among those wrote to centre and state governments, asking to be given a choice in the vaccination process.

On Monday, as the second phase of the vaccination drive began, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rolled up his sleeve and got a shot of Covaxin at Delhi’s AIIMS to dispel any fears.

This morning the centre reported nearly 15,000 new Covid cases in the past 24 hours, with the active caseload increasing by around 1,700.

As of March 1, of these the number of UK strain cases are 187.
