Latest News Today – Centre Introduces Bill To Help Pandemic-Hit Small

Government has introduced a bill to provide relief to pandemic hit small and medium enterprises

The Centre on Monday introduced a bill in Lok Sabha for providing a resolution process for financially stressed micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), especially those which have been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

The bill will amend the insolvency law and offer what is being termed, a pre-packaged resolution process for such small enterprises.

The proposed amendments would help notify the threshold of a default not exceeding Rs 1 crore for initiation of pre-packaged resolution process. The Centre has already prescribed the threshold of Rs 10 lakh for this purpose.

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which was introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, will replace the ordinance that came into effect on April 4, 2021 to provide relief for pandemic affected MSMEs.

The bill seeks to have a new chapter in the Code to facilitate pre-packaged insolvency resolution process for corporate persons that are MSMEs.

Under a pre-packaged process, main stakeholders such as creditors and shareholders come together to identify a prospective buyer and negotiate a resolution plan before approaching the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). All resolution plans under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) need the tribunal’s approval.

As per the bill’s objective, it aims to specify a minimum threshold of not more than Rs 1 crore for initiating pre-packaged insolvency resolution process as well as provisions for disposal of simultaneous applications for initiation of insolvency resolution process and pre-packaged insolvency resolution process, pending against the same corporate debtor.

There would be a penalty for fraudulent or malicious initiation of pre-packaged insolvency resolution process or with intent to defraud persons, and for fraudulent management of the corporate debtor during the process.

Further, punishment would be meted out for offences related to pre-packaged insolvency resolution process.

How to Use Center Stage on an iPad Pro | Sidnaz Blog

Though it feels like we’ve been Zooming and FaceTiming and using Google Hangouts for an eternity, most of us have still not figured out how to look good on a video call. Luckily, a new feature on iPad Pro called Center Stage has launched, and without much effort, it can make you look just a little bit better on camera.

Center Stage only works on the ultra-wide front-facing cameras on the iPad Pro, and seeks to keep you in focus even as you move around the frame. That means if you have your iPad Pro propped up, the camera will follow you around, and automatically keep refocusing even as you move closer, further away, or to the side.

To activate Center Stage for FaceTime, open up “Settings” and tap “FaceTime. Make sure the Center Stage switch is toggled on (just toggle it back off if/when you want to disable it). If you’re already on a FaceTime call, you can swipe up from the bottom of the screen and toggle on or off from the menu that arises.

If you are not a regular user of Apple’s proprietary video calling app, they’ve also allowed the feature to be enabled on other video calling platforms, including Zoom. While on a Zoom call on an iPad Pro, you’ll see the option to turn Center Stage on or off on the left-hand sidebar, just below the options to switch your camera and active speaker view.

Now you can at least trust that your face will be in focus and in the frame, even if you move around. Exactly how your face looks (and what you are wearing or not wearing just out of view of the camera) is still entirely up to you.

Latest News Today – Prashant Kishor’s team on assignment for Mamata Banerjee

The Tripura Police allegedly stopped the IPAC team from leaving their hotel.

Kolkata:

A team from poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s IPAC (Indian Political Action Committee) has allegedly been stopped from leaving their hotel in Tripura capital Agartala, where they went to do some surveys for Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. The Tripura police have been camping at the hotel lobby and outside since the morning and are not allowing any of the 22 members of the IPAC team to leave the premises, sources in the organisation told NDTV.

The IPAC employees were in Agartala to assess the political situation and potential support base for the Trinamool Congress.  Election in the BJP-ruled state is due in 2023.

The police has not given any official reason for the detention, only claiming the IPAC team had violated Covid norms.   Sources in the IPAC said the team had all the necessary Covid-related papers.

The news of the detention coincided with Ms Banerjee’s arrival in Delhi this evening. Her stated agenda: Stitching up opposition unity against the BJP ahead of the 2024 national elections, in which Prashant Kishor — her poll strategist in the assembly elections — is apparently playing a key role.

Trinamool Congress general secretary, party MP and Ms Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee tweeted:

The police said the questioning of the team at the hotel was part of routine check-up.

“The outsiders– around 22 persons—were roaming around in various places. Since Covid restrictions are in place, we are inquiring to verify the reasons behind their arrival and stay in the city. They all underwent Covid tests on Monday, the reports are awaited,” Manik Das, Superintendent of Police, West Tripura, was quoted as saying by news agency Press Trust of India.

Trinamool’s state unit chief Ashish Lal Singha called it an “attack on democracy”.

“Being a resident of Tripura, I am shocked. It is not Tripura’s culture. The BJP has panicked following the overwhelming response and support to the TMC due to the misrule of the BJP led government in Tripura,” PTI quoted him as saying.

COVID norms? Who cares? This year, it’s ‘coronalu’ | | Live Newspaper Hyderabad

It was a riot of colours, as haldi-smeared potharajus, fierce-looking Shiva sathulu, entranced oracles and thousands upon thousands of devotees thronged the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad on Sunday. All the streets leading to the temple in RP Road wore a similar carnivalesque look. It’s Bonalu time after all, and celebrations were in order, more so because all the festivities were called off last year owing to the strict lockdown in 2020. What’s worrisome however, was the fact that all caution was thrown to the wind, as the crowds went about their business as usual, like in the good old pre-Covid days. No temperature checks, no social distancing, heck, no masks even!

As large processions of women devotees bearing offerings of rice, jaggery, curd and neem leaves in decorated pots atop their heads made their way to the temple, the Potharajus pranced around menacingly showing off their moves and clearing the way for the swaying oracle.
Watching apprehensively from the sidelines, one couldn’t help but wonder what she’d predict this year. That this heady abandon and reckless joy brought about by Bonalu will be short-lived? That we may be witnessing the careless ushering in of a third bout of ‘coronalu’ instead? Well, turns out, these nervous thoughts are the bane of the pragmatic few. The devotees are riding high on adrenaline and happy hormones, bolstered by ample doses of good faith: “We’re all fully vaccinated. What’s the problem? We have no fear of the virus anymore,” says a very confident K Venkat, a resident of General Bazar who’s attending the festivities with his entire family. None of them are masked; not even the elderly or the kids. Incidentally, the pujaris and organsiers aren’t all that worried either. A senior temple official says, “Since people had missed the festivities last year, there is a sense of eagerness to be a part of it this time. However, the number of devotees were lesser due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Normally, 3-5 lakh devotees visit the temple every year to offer bonam. This year, we witnessed only around 1.5 lakh visitors.”
Little mercies! But is that enough to ward off a new outbreak? Only time will tell.

Latest News Today – Reports Of Firing At Assam-Mizoram Border; Chief

Assam-Mizoram Border Tension: There were reports of firing from the Assam-Mizoram border areas.

Fresh violence broke out at the disputed Assam-Mizoram border today — two days after Union home minister Amit Shah met all Chief Ministers of the northeast at Shillong. There were reports of firing from the border area — which lies over Assam’s Cachar district and Mizoram’s Colasib district — and attacks on government vehicles.Mr Shah has dialled both Chief Ministers and asked them to resolve the border issue, to which they have agreed, reported news agency ANI quoting sources. The police forces from both states have returned from disputed site.

The Chief Ministers of both states clashed on Twitter, and tagged Union Home Minister Amit Shah in their posts.

Tweeting a video of the violence where people armed with sticks can be seen, Chief Minster Zoramthanga sought Mr Shah’s intervention, saying it “needs to be stopped right now.”

“Innocent couple on their way back to Mizoram via Cachar manhandled and ransacked by thugs and goons. How are you going to justify these violent acts?” read another tweet.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “Honble @ZoramthangaCM ji , Kolasib (Mizoram) SP is asking us to withdraw from our post until then their civilians won’t listen nor stop violence. How can we run government in such circumstances? Hope you will intervene at earliest”.

Mr Sarma later tweeted that he has spoken to his MIzoram counterpart. “I have just spoken to Hon’ble Chief Minister @ZoramthangaCM ji.I have reiterated that Assam will maintain status quo and peace between the borders of our state. I have expressed my willingness to visit Aizawl and disscuss these issues if need be (sic),” his tweet read.

Mr Zoramthanga, however, shot back, “As discussed I kindly urge that Assam Police be instructed to withdraw from Vairengte for the safety of civilians”.

Three Mizoram districts – Aizawl, Kolasib and Mamit – share a 164.6 km long inter-state border with Assam’s Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts. There have been skirmishes at the “disputed” areas of the border for years, with the residents on both sides accusing each other of intrusion.

The last incident was reported in June, when security forces of both states exchanged allegations of “intrusion”.

The Mizoram government has constituted a boundary commission to deal with demarcation of the border. The boundary commission will be chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia and will have Home Minister Lalchamliana as vice chairman.

Assam has border disputes with Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh as well.
