Afghanistan Situation: Working To – Latest news headlines

Afghan Crisis: Control over Kabul airport has been split between occupying Taliban forces and US troops.

The government has told 31 opposition parties that the immediate priority is the evacuation of all Indians stranded in Afghanistan, sources said on Thursday afternoon. This was after an all-party meet called by Prime Minister Modi to brief the opposition on the “critical” Afghanistan situation.

Around 15,000 people have contacted the government seeking assistance in fleeing from Afghanistan, sources said, adding that Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had also briefed the opposition about evacuation steps being taken by other nations, such as the United States, Russia and China.

India is trying to evacuate as many people as possible from Afghanistan, Mr Jaishankar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. He underlined that evacuating Indians is the “top priority”.

“We have undertaken evacuation operations in extremely difficult conditions, especially at the airport. Our immediate concern and task is evacuation, and the long-term interest is the friendship for the Afghan people,” Mr Jaishankar tweeted after the meeting.

Sources also said the government had told opposition leaders the Taliban broke promises made to the United States and its allies in Doha in the weeks up to its occupation of Kabul.

Last week – before the Taliban took control of Kabul – news agency Reuters said the Islamist group had agreed to a two-week cease-fire in exchange for President Ashraf Ghani’s resignation and the start of talks on setting up a transitional government.

Apart from Mr Jaishankar, the meeting was attended by Union Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge (Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha) and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury (party chief in the Lok Sabha) were among the opposition leaders present, as were NCP chief Sharad Pawar, the DMK’s TR Baalu, and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.

India, which has been allowed to operate two flights per day from Kabul, has evacuated over 300 of its citizens so far. A similar number of citizens from other nations have also been brought back.

However, evacuations have been slowed by the volatile security situation in and around the airport in Kabul, control of which is split between occupying Taliban forces and the United States.

The Foreign Ministry has said the government is committed to their safe return, adding that the main challenge is the operational status of the airport. Evacuations have also been affected by the fact that some Indians had not registered on arrival in Kabul, making it difficult to locate them.

The last batch of evacuation flights from Kabul landed in India on Sunday – a special Air Force plane carrying around 168 people, including 107 Indian citizens, was among those flights.

The evacuees also included some Indian Sikhs who had taken refugee at a gurudwara in Kabul.

An Afghan woman who was on the Air Force flight told ANI the situation in her country was “deteriorating”, and that the Taliban had burned down her house.

Indians were also flown in on three other flights – operated by Air India, IndiGo and Vistara. These flights were routed via Tajikistan and Qatar, due to safety concerns over some flight paths.

On August 17, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security to monitor the safe evacuation of Indians stranded in Afghanistan.

The Taliban took control of Afghanistan 10 days ago, after President Ashraf Ghani fled and the group walked into Kabul with no opposition. This was after a staggeringly fast rout of major cities, and following two decades of war that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.

Since then at least 20 people have died at Kabul airport as thousands rush to flee the country, according to a report by Reuters that quoted an unnamed NATO official.

Landslide In Himachal, Many Feared – Latest news headlines

Kinnaur Landslide: Teams of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been sent to the area.

Several people are feared buried after a landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur left many vehicles trapped under debris this afternoon.

The landslide took place on the Reckong Peo-Shimla Highway in Kinnaur at around 12.45 pm. A truck, a state-run bus and other vehicles are believed to have been buried in rubble.

Reports suggest the bus, travelling to Shimla, had 40 people on board.

Teams of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been sent to the area for rescue operations. Chief Minister Jairam Thakur said the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had also been called in.

“I’ve directed the police and the local administration to carry out rescue operations. NDRF has also been put on alert. We have received information that one bus and a car could have been hit. We are waiting for detailed information,” Mr Thakur told reporters.

Heavy, incessant rain has caused many landslides in parts of Himachal Pradesh over the past few weeks.

Last month, nine tourists were killed after huge boulders fell on their cars in another part of Kinnaur.

A video that was circulated online showed boulders rolling downhill and smashing into a bridge.

Many such videos have emerged from the state this season. In another incident, a stretch of road collapsed as a hillside crashed down in dramatic visuals of a landslide at Sirmaur after two days of incessant rain.

Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G Spotted on US – Latest news headlines

Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is expected launch soon, thanks to numerous leaks in the past few weeks. The smartphone has now been spotted on a US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) listing, which also hints at some of the key specifications that Samsung may offer with the smartphone. The Galaxy A52s 5G has reportedly also been spotted with a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. Earlier this week, some official-looking renders surfaced online suggesting what the soon-to-be-launched smartphone could look like and the colour options it could come with. Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G’s alleged price has also been tipped.

The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is thought to have been been spotted on the US FCC with model name SM-A528B. The listing suggests that the upcoming Samsung smartphone could be offered with 12 5G bands — 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40, 41, 66, 78. The smartphone could also come with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, and NFC connectivity. These 5G bands are the same as the ones found on the vanilla Galaxy A52 5G, but the difference lies in the modem used on the 5G variant.

As per tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd), who also shared the FCC listing, the Galaxy A52s 5G could also launch in India soon as it has “approved” by BIS. According to the tweet, the smartphone could have a Snapdragon 778G SoC paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. It could run Android 11 and support NFC. As opposed to the FCC listing, the Indian variant of the Galaxy A52s 5G could only come with n5 and n66 5G bands.

The modem on the Galaxy A52s 5G is said to be an X53 modem, which is a part of the Snapdragon 778G SoC — as spotted on its Geekbench listing. The X53 modem is rated for up to 3.3Gbps download speeds on 5G and 1.2Gbps on 4G networks. Another difference between the 5G and the 4G variant is the chipset — Snapdragon 750G on the Galaxy A52 5G that’s fabricated using an 8nm process. The new Snapdragon 778G chipset is fabricated using a 6nm process.

The Galaxy A52s 5G may also get a new telephoto lens which could replace the 5-megapixel depth sensor found on the vanilla Galaxy A52 5G. The camera setup on the Galaxy A52s 5G could be similar to the Galaxy A72.

Samsung could offer the smartphone is four colour options — Awesome Black, Awesome Mint, Awesome Purple, and Awesome White. These colour options were shared by tipster Roland Quandt who also shared some official-looking renders for the Galaxy A52s 5G. These renders suggest that the design of the smartphone seems similar to the design of its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G price (expected)

The price for the Galaxy A52s 5G has been tipped a couple of times now. According to tipster Snoopy (@snoopytech), the smartphone is expected to cost EUR 450 (roughly Rs. 39,500). This price matches a retailer listing which said the smartphone could be priced at EUR 434.64 (roughly Rs. 38,100). Tipster Yadav also claims that the smartphone could be priced at EUR 434 for its 128GB storage variant.

GST Collections Touched Rs 1.16 Lakh latest news headlines

GST collections for July 2021 were Rs 1.16 lakh crore

Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for July 2021 were Rs 1.16 lakh crore, 33 per cent more than the corresponding period of last year.

According to figures released by Finance Ministry on Sunday, gross GST revenue collected in July 2021 are Rs 1,16,393 crore, out of which Central GST is Rs 22,197 crore, State GST is Rs 28,541 crore and Integrated GST is Rs 57,864 crore (including Rs 27,900 crore collected on import of goods) and cess of Rs 7,790 crore (including Rs 815 crore collected on import of goods).

GST collections in July 2020 had stood at Rs 87,422 crore, while sequentially they had stood at Rs 92,849 crore in June this year.

“GST collection, after posting above Rs 1 lakh crore mark for eight months in a row, dropped below Rs 1 lakh crore in June 2021 as the collections during the month of June 2021 predominantly related to the month of May 2021,” the finance ministry said in a statement.

During May 2021, when the country had been severely hit by the second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, many states were under partial or complete lockdown.

“With the easing out of Covid restrictions, GST collection for July 2021 has again crossed Rs 1 lakh crore, which clearly indicates that the economy is recovering at a fast pace. The robust GST revenues are likely to continue in the coming months too,” the ministry said.

Latest News Today – Taliban Hideouts Destroyed In Afghanistan Airstrike

A hideout used by Taliban insurgents is seen being destroyed in an airstrike by defense forces in a video released by the Afghanistan government on Twitter. Tens of terrorists were killed and wounded in the attack in Zherai district of Kandhar province, it said.

At least 250 such insurgents have been killed while nearly 100 were wounded in battles at several major cities over the past 24 hours, the government has said.

These developments come as the Taliban makes rapid territorial gains amid the US military’s final stage of withdrawal from the war-torn country.

After seizing large tracts of rural territory and capturing key border crossings, the Taliban have besieged provincial capitals. Last night they fired three rockets at the airport in Kandhar, Afghanistan’s second-largest city and a former bastion of the insurgents.

The attack at the airport, an installation vital for the logistical and air support needed to keep the Taliban from overrunning, came as they inched closer to capturing at least two other provincial capitals, including nearby Lashkar Gah in Helmand province.

The Afghanistan government has repeatedly dismissed the Taliban’s steady territorial gains over the summer as “lacking strategic value”.

Huzurabad byelection: It’s BJP’s Ram mandir versus TRS’ sop | Sidnaz Blog

HYDERABAD: BJP is playing the emotive Ram Mandir card to counter TRS’ sops and schemes to woo voters ahead of the crucial bypoll to the Huzurabad assembly constituency.
The 5,000-disciplined army of BJP and its frontal organisations are raising the Ram Mandir issue. Panna Pramukhs, each of whom has the target of connecting with 60 voters, are silently taking the slogan to the electorate that “a vote for the lotus symbol is equivalent to contributing a brick in the construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.”
BJP claims the response has been good from the people as a majority of them have been raising hands when asked by Panna Pramukhs how many of them had contributed money during the public donation collection done by Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust for construction of Ram Mandir and offering them another opportunity to add to their good deeds. “TRS is depending on money to win the election. BJP’s slogan is to meet every voter at least once. It is up to the voters to decide whether they want to do ‘punyam’ (good deeds, good karma) by voting for BJP which is constructing the Ram Mandir or account for ‘paapam’ (sin) by voting against lotus,” BJP’s Huzurabad in-charge and former MP AP Jithender Reddy told TOI.
Backward classes welfare minister Gangula Kamalakar, who is leading TRS charge in Huzurabad, said BJP has always tried to polarise voters on religious lines. “The issue of Ram Mandir is not new as BJP tried to use it in earlier elections too. But people of Telangana have been voting for development and welfare schemes of TRS government and K Chandrasekhar Rao’s promise of transforming the state into Bangaru Telangana,” he said. However, the minister hastened to add that they would soon come out with a counter strategy against the saffron party’s Hindutva card.
Another senior TRS leader said people know that the KCR government has been spending on temples, including Yadagirigutta, enhanced the honorarium of archakas, muessins and imams. It has given land for cemeteries to the Christian community in and around Greater Hyderabad, in tune with its secular ideology, he added.
