HYDERABAD: KPBH police in Hyderabad on Wednesday busted a five-member gang, which was involved in the kidnapping of a businessman by claiming to be from the police department.
From the accused, police seized a toy pistol, two daggers, a pair each of police and Army uniform.
Police said that on February 5, they received a complaint from T Dileep, whose business involves mortgaging automobiles. According to him, on January 27, he was contacted by P Swamy Satyanarayana and sought Rs 15,000 finance by mortgaging his car.
After the transaction was done, it was on February 1 that Dileep was travelling in KPHB in a car when he was stopped by the accused, who claimed themselves to be police officials and took him into custody.
In his car, he was taken to Jangareddy gudem in West Godavari by the accused and later they demanded Rs 5 lakh, while he was in their confinement.
By paying Rs 50,000 the victim managed to give a slip to the accused and reached Hyderabad before lodging a complaint with police.
Based on the details given by the victim, the police arrested Nagaraju Karthikeya Raghuvarma alias Major Karthik, B Deepak Kumar, G Anil Kumar, whereas two other accused – Swamy Satyanarayana and Srinu – are absconding.
Nagaraju, a native of West Godavari district, in the year 2017 went for Army selection but he failed to get a job.
Later, he bought an Army uniform and went to his village and claimed that he was an Army officer.
After he was involved in an extortion case, Andhra Pradesh police on verification found that he is a fake Army officer.
He extorted money from businessmen by claiming himself either an Army or police officer.
Previously, he was arrested in four different cases registered both in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
