It was the first time the e-commerce titan missed the high end of its own sales projections in two years, according to data from FactSet.

The company is still a juggernaut. Second-quarter revenue rose 27% to $113.1 billion, bringing trailing 12-month sales to more than $443 billion. That puts Amazon well on pace to overtake

as the largest U.S. company by annual sales some time next year, while still growing at double-digit rates. Growth at the company’s crucial AWS cloud business also picked up, with revenue jumping 37% year over year compared with a 32% rise in the last quarter. That lines up with trends shown by cloud rivals

Microsoft

and Google earlier this week, suggesting that the market leader, AWS, is at least holding its ground.

But the boom in online sales Amazon enjoyed at the start of the pandemic created a challenging comparison for the most recent quarter. Thursday’s results confirmed the suspicions of some analysts that the company’s Prime Day sales event in late June underwhelmed. Amazon’s online stores segment saw revenue grow by only 16% to $53.2 billion in the second quarter, falling well short of analysts’ targets. Revenue growth from third-party and subscription services decelerated. Advertising revenue, reflected in the company’s “Other” segment, showed a strong jump of 87% year over year to $7.9 billion. But advertising still contributes only about 7% to Amazon’s total revenue.

as Amazon will face difficult comparisons for the rest of the year following its pandemic-fueled sales jump in 2020. But the bar seems low enough. The midpoint of the company’s revenue projection for the third quarter represents growth of 13% year over year. That would be Amazon’s slowest growth rate in 20 years, even with the pandemic picking back up and possibly driving more sales online.

Amazon’s new boss has plenty to do.

After Flipkart, Amazon Files Appeal At Supreme Court In Antitrust Probe

Amazon.com Inc on Wednesday filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against a Karnataka High Court’s order that allowed an antitrust probe against the US firm and Walmart’s Flipkart to continue, according to source and court listings.

The Karnataka High Court last week dismissed cases filed by Amazon and Flipkart which sought to quash the Competition Commission of India’s (CCI) 2020 investigation on accusations that the companies circumvent Indian law by creating complex business structures.

The companies have denied wrongdoing, but the High Court said “they should not feel shy in facing an inquiry”.

Details of Amazon’s plea were not immediately clear. The Supreme Court website showed the case listing of an appeal, without giving further details.

Flipkart had challenged the decision in the Supreme Court on Tuesday and has requested a restraint on the CCI after the watchdog asked 32 “sensitive” questions in mid-July, in what the firm called an “invasive” investigation.

The CCI investigation is the latest setback for Amazon and Flipkart, which are grappling with prospects of tougher e-commerce regulations and accusations from brick-and-mortar retailers that the companies circumvent Indian law by creating complex business structures.

The companies face several allegations in the case, including exclusive launches of mobile phones, promotion of select sellers on their websites and deep discounting practices that drive out competition.

Customers with Amazon Prime subscription and OnePlus Red Cable membership can purchase OnePlus Nord 2 5G in 8GB and 12GB models through Amazon and OnePlus.in. However, the base 6GB option will be available in August. The phone currently comes in Blue Haze and Gray Sierra colours, though it will also get a Green Woods hue with a leather-like back finish next month.

Sale offers on OnePlus Nord 2 5G include a Rs. 1,000 instant discount and no-cost EMI options for three and six months on HDFC Bank credit cards and EMI transactions on OnePlus.in. Customers will also get an additional Rs. 1,000 exchange discount. Further, Amazon will offer a 10 percent instant discount for customers purchasing OnePlus Nord 2 through HDFC Bank debit and credit cards as well as EMI transactions.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G will be available for regular customers through Amazon, OnePlus.in, OnePlus Experience Stores, and other retail channels starting July 28.

The dual-SIM (Nano) OnePlus Nord 2 5G runs on OxygenOS 11.3 based on Android 11. It features a 6.43-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,400 pixels) Fluid AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI SoC, along with up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM. It comes with a triple rear camera setup that houses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 primary sensor with an f/1.88 lens, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide shooter, and a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor. Flipkart, Amazon Appeals 'Deserved To Be Dismissed', Says Karnataka High Court

Karnataka High Court on Friday dismissed an appeal by Amazon.com Inc and Walmart’s Flipkart that sought to stall an antitrust investigation into their business practices – a major setback for the companies.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) last year ordered a probe following allegations from brick-and-mortar retailers that the U.S. firms promote select sellers on their e-commerce platforms and use deep discounts to stifle competition.

The investigation was on hold for several months after companies challenged it, denying wrongdoing and arguing that the CCI lacked evidence, but a court allowed it to continue in June. On Friday, the Karanataka High Court rejected the U.S. firms’ appeals.

“The appeals are nothing but an attempt to ensure that action initiated by the CCI … does not attain finality,” a two-judge bench said while reading the decision in court.

“The appeals are devoid of merit, and deserve to be dismissed.”

Amazon and Flipkart did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“This further reinforces that the CCI investigation should continue promptly,” said Abir Roy of Sarvada Legal which filed the antitrust case against Amazon, Flipkart on behalf of a trader group.

The CCI investigation is the latest setback for the firms, which are also grappling with tougher foreign investment rules and accusations from brick-and-mortar retailers that they circumvent Indian law by creating complex business structures.

Latest News Today – Amazon Accused of Concealing Facts in Deal for Future

India’s antitrust regulator has accused Amazon of concealing facts and making false submissions when it sought approval for a 2019 investment in a Future Group unit, a letter to the US e-commerce giant seen by Reuters showed.

The letter complicates Amazon’s bitter legal battle with Future Group over the Indian’s firm’s decision to sell its retail assets to Reliance Industries – a matter that is now before India’s Supreme Court.

Amazon has argued that terms agreed upon in its 2019 deal to pay $192 million (roughly Rs. 1,430 crores) for a 49 percent stake in Future’s gift voucher unit prevent its parent, Future Group, from selling its Future Retail business to Reliance.

In the letter dated June 4, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) said Amazon hid factual aspects of the transaction by not revealing its strategic interest in Future Retail when it sought approval for the 2019 deal.

“The representations and conduct of Amazon before the Commission amounts to misrepresentation, making false statement and suppression or/and concealment of material facts,” the letter said. It also noted that its review of the submissions made had been prompted by a complaint from Future Group.

In the four-page letter, a so-called ‘show cause notice’, the CCI asked Amazon why it should not take action and penalise the company for providing false information.

Amazon has yet to respond, according to a source with direct knowledge of the matter who declined to be identified as the letter has not been made public.

Amazon said in a statement to Reuters it had received a letter, was committed to complying with India’s laws and would extend its full cooperation to the CCI.

“We are confident that we will be able to address the CCI’s concerns,” it said.

Representatives for Future and the CCI did not respond to Reuters requests for comment.

Vaibhav Choukse, a competition law specialist and partner at J. Sagar Associates, said it was rare for the CCI to issue such a notice and that if the CCI was not satisfied by Amazon’s response, it could lead to a fine and even a review of the deal.

“The CCI has wide powers which includes directions to re-file the approval application and even revoke the approval under exceptional circumstances,” Choukse said.

The CCI’s 2019 approval order states its decision “shall stand revoked if, at any time, the information provided” is found to be incorrect.

Shares in Future Retail jumped after Reuters published details of the letter, extending gains to be up nearly 5 percent in Thursday afternoon trade.

Submissions compared

The dispute over Future Retail, which has more than 1,500 supermarket and other outlets, is the most hostile flashpoint between Jeff Bezos’ Amazon and Reliance, run by India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, as they try to gain the upper hand in winning over the country’s consumers.

Amazon also has a host of other challenges in India, a key growth market where it has committed $6.5 billion (roughly Rs. 48,410 crores) in investments, including a separate CCI probe into alleged practices that small businesses say have hurt them.

In addition, it faces the prospect of more regulations that would restrict the sale of private labels and would prohibit the US firm from allowing its affiliates to list products on its website.

The CCI letter compared three sets of submissions Amazon made to it in 2019 with submissions made later to other legal forums, saying they were “contradictory.”

In particular, it said Amazon had explained its interest in investing in Future’s coupon unit as one that would address gaps in India’s payments industry. But the letter stated Amazon had disclosed in other legal forums that the foundation of its relationship with Future Coupon was certain special rights it obtained over Future Retail.

“Amazon has concealed its strategic interest” in Future Retail, the letter said, adding: “Such interest and the purpose of the combination … was not disclosed to the Commission despite specific requirements.”

The CCI also objected to one section of a submission where Amazon had told the regulator it had nothing to do with one particular legal agreement that two Future entities had signed between themselves days ahead of its 2019 deal. But Amazon later claimed before an arbitrator that the agreement was an “integrated part” of the transaction, the letter said.

OnePlus Buds Pro should be an upgrade to OnePlus Buds. The new Pro variant can be speculated to be priced higher than the vanilla Oneplus Buds, that are currently priced at Rs. 4,999. OnePlus Buds Pro are reported to come in a Matte Black colour option.

OnePlus Nord 2 has been confirmed to get two OS updates and three years of software support after launch. OnePlus Nord 2 is likely to have dual-SIM slots and run on OxygenOS 11.3. It will feature a 6.43-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,400 pixels) Fluid AMOLED display with 20:9 aspect ratio, 90Hz refresh rate, and 410ppi pixel density. The phone will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI SoC. It is likely to come in two storage configurations — 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB.

On the camera front, OnePlus Nord 2 is confirmed to feature a triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel IMX766 sensor. There is likely to be an additional 8-megapixel secondary sensor and a 2-megapixel tertiary sensor on the back. At the front, there could be a 32-megapixel selfie camera with features such as dual video, nightscape ultra, group shot 2.0, and more.

There is expected to be an in-display fingerprint sensor on OnePlus Nord 2. The phone is confirmed to pack a 4,500mAh battery with 65W Warp Charge fast charging support.

OnePlus Buds Pro specifications

The upcoming OnePlus Buds Pro are reported to feature an in-ear design and see upgrades to the OnePlus Buds launched last year. Kinder Liu, OnePlus’ head of research and development, confirmed to CNET that the earbuds will come with adaptive noise cancellation. It will be equipped with three microphones allowing it to “intelligently produce noise-cancelling counter frequencies.” It will be able to adjust “how much noise cancelling is needed, auto-tuning itself from a minimum of 15 decibels to a maximum of 40db.”

Further, Liu says that OnePlus Buds Pro may offer up to 28 hours of battery life with the charging case with adaptive noise cancellation turned on and up to 38 hours with the feature turned off. Users can toggle noise cancellation via touch controls on the earbuds or via the HeyMelody app. The charging case will come with a USB Type-C port that is likely to offer 10 hours of battery life with just 10 minutes of wired charging. It will also support Qi-wireless charging at 1W speeds. Wired charging speeds are reported to be at 10W.
