Omicron Spreading Very Fast Worldwide, – Latest news headlines

Omicron: The B.1.1.529 strain was first identified in South Africa last week (File)

Highlights

  • The Health Ministry today said the Omicron variant is “spreading rapidly”
  • 19 districts in India are at “high risk” of a surge in Covid cases
  • Maharashtra, at 32, has the highest Omicron cases of any state in India

New Delhi:

The Omicron variant of the coronavirus is “spreading rapidly” – there are now 101 cases in 11 states in India – the Health Ministry said Friday, warning that 19 districts were at high risk of a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Faced with the threat of a third wave of infections, the ministry underlined the need to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour, including the use of face masks and maintaining social distance. The ministry also urged people to avoid non-essential travel and stay away from large crowds and gatherings.

The ministry then issued a dire threat – that based on the progression of the strain in the UK (which already has over 11,000 Omicron cases), India could see a devastating 14 lakh cases daily.

Renewed warnings of the dangers posed by Omicron come as 10 new cases were reported from Delhi earlier in the day. The city has now 22 confirmed Omicron cases.

The 10 new cases were reported after a worrying spike in overall Covid cases in the city over the previous 24 hours – 85 were detected – up from 57 on Thursday and 45 on Wednesday.

Maharashtra – worst hit by earlier waves of infections – has so far recorded the most Omicron cases – 32. Rajasthan is next with 17, and Karnataka and Telangana have reported eight each. Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh have also reported cases of the new variant.

A point of worry is that at least two of the Omicron cases reported from Maharashtra were young children – a three-year-old boy and an 18-month-old girl.

The government has already urged states to step up surveillance measures and focus on sequencing positive samples in an effort to identify cases and potential hotspots.

New travel rules were enforced starting December 1, requiring foreign arrivals from countries deemed ‘at risk’ to submit to RT-PCR tests and, in some cases, mandatory quarantine.

“Most cases of Omicron have a travel history, or have contacts with travel histories. But there have been some cases in which we have not been able to establish any such history. In that the process is on to identify travel or contact histories…” Dr VK Paul, India’s Covid task force chief, said.

Omicron was first reported from South Africa last month.

Since then, it has been reported from 77 countries, including the US, Israel, Hong Kong and Japan, and the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates the variant is “probably” in most countries.

The first cases in India were reported by Karnataka on December 2.

Earlier today the G7 (Group of Seven) called Omicron the “biggest current threat to global public health” and said it was now “more important than ever” for countries to “closely cooperate”.

A sliver of good news is that only one death has been linked to the Omicron strain so far – in the UK.

Initial studies indicate Omicron is significantly more infectious than the Delta variant that wrought havoc in India and the world, but it does lead to less severe symptoms.

The jury is still out on the variant’s vaccine-evasion ability, but medical experts have urged people to ensure they are double-vaccinated and called on governments to offer booster doses.

Latest News Today – Netflix Buys Will Smith-Led Action Thriller Movie Fast &

Will Smith is headed to Netflix (again), this time with the John Wick director. Netflix announced early on Wednesday that it has picked up worldwide rights to Fast & Loose, a new action-thriller movie directed by David Leitch and starring Smith as a “man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns that he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.” It sounds a bit like The Bourne Identity, but like in Mexico? Leitch — also known for Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw — will direct off a script by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber.

Deadline first brought word of Fast & Loose being sold to Netflix, with the world’s biggest subscription-based video streaming service confirming the news an hour or so later. Netflix has been involved ever since Fast & Loose was shopped around to all major Hollywood players starting in February, Deadline added, but it’s only now in late July that the deal has been finalised because Netflix “has taken its time in negotiating the deals.”

Both Smith and Leitch will also serve as producers on Fast & Loose, alongside Kelly McCormick for 87North, and Westbrook Studios’ Ryan Shimazaki, James Lassiter, and co-president and motion pictures head Jon Mone. STXFilms — now merged with Eros International and functioning as ErosSTX — is also a producer on Fast & Loose. No other cast is known to be attached at this point to Fast & Loose, and there’s no word on when production might begin.

Smith was last seen in the threequel Bad Boys for Life that made $426.5 million (about Rs. 3,175 crores) at the worldwide box office for Sony Pictures. He will be next seen as the titular father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams in King Richard, a Warner Bros. title that releases November 19 on HBO Max and in cinemas. Smith is currently filming on the Apple TV+ slavery drama Emancipation that was sold to the iPhone maker for over $120 million (about Rs. 893 crores). Smith’s previous major association with Netflix was the fantasy action film Bright.

Leitch’s latest movie was Hobbs & Shaw with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham — it made over $760 million (about Rs. 5,657 crores) at the worldwide box office for Universal Pictures. His next feature-length directorial venture is action thriller Bullet Train, which finds five assassins discovering on a Japanese bullet train that their assignments are interconnected. Bullet Train stars Brad Pitt, Joey King, Andrew Koji, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon, Lady Gaga, Hiroyuki Sanada, Karen Fukuhara, and Sandra Bullock. Sony Pictures has set an April 2022 release date for Bullet Train.

Latest News Today – OnePlus Nord 2 Battery Capacity, Fast Charging

OnePlus Nord 2 5G is set to be launched in India tomorrow, July 22. The Chinese tech giant has revealed the specifications for the battery and its fast-charging support ahead of its debut. OnePlus has already confirmed some key specifications of its upcoming mid-range smartphone. Some leaks have also surfaced that tip the prices for the upcoming phone. OnePlus Nord 2 is expected to be offered in four colourways — Blue Haze, Gray Sierra, Green Woods, and an unnamed Red colour option.

Through a tweet on its official Twitter handle, OnePlus has confirmed that OnePlus Nord 2 will pack a 4,500mAh battery that supports Warp Charge 65 fast charging. The tweet also mentions that Warp Charge 65 is capable of giving the smartphone a full day’s worth of battery life in just 15 minutes. However, it doesn’t mention the exact battery percentage that will make OnePlus Nord 2 last a whole day.

The different colour options OnePlus Nord 2 may be available in have surfaced through recent reports. It is likely that the Green Woods colour option may only be available on the 12GB + 256GB storage variant. The last smartphone by OnePlus to receive the Red colour treatment was OnePlus 7, that appears to be glossier than the Red colourway of OnePlus Nord 2.

The design of the OnePlus Nord 2 was also confirmed through a tweet by the company. The smartphone is shown to have a similar design to the OnePlus 9 series. Up front, the mid-range smartphone is shown to have a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera and it will have a triple rear camera setup similar to the OnePlus 9 series.

The smartphone is also confirmed to come with a MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI chipset, making it the first OnePlus smartphone to be powered by a MediaTek processor. It will come with many AI-based features with the AI-Photo Enhancement feature capable of recognising up to 22 different scenarios. OnePlus also confirmed that the smartphone will come with OxygenOS 11 out-of-the-box and will get two major OS updates along with three years of security updates.

OnePlus Nord 2 is also expected to come with a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ certification. The prices for the upcoming smartphone have also leaked and its base 8GB + 128GB storage variant is expected to be priced at Rs. 31,999. The 12GB + 256GB storage variant is expected to be priced at Rs. 34,999.

Latest News Today – Government To Frame Policy To Fast Track Public Private

Government will form a policy to fast track clearance to public private partnership projects

Keen to fast track its ambitious asset monetisation programme and streamlining approval for public private partnership (PPP) projects, the Government today announced that it will come up with a new policy to address the issues plaguing the system.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday while announcing various fiscal measures to boost employment and shore up the health sector affected by Coronavirus pandemic, said that the current process for approval of PPP projects is long and involves multiple levels of approvals.

“A new policy will be formulated for appraisal and approval of PPP proposals and monetisation of core infrastructure assets, including through InvITs or infrastructure investment trust,” she said.

The aim behind the move will be to ensure speedy clearance of projects and to facilitate private sector’s efficiencies in financing construction and management of infrastructure.

Latest News Today – Samsung Galaxy M22 to Debut With 25W Fast Charging

Samsung Galaxy M22 will come with 25W fast charging support, a listing on the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) site has suggested. The unannounced Samsung phone has apparently received the FCC certification with the model number SM-M225FV/DS. Although there aren’t many new details to gather from the US FCC listing, the development suggests the Samsung Galaxy M22 could be Samsung’s most affordable phone with 25W charging support. The South Korean company is rumoured to launch the Galaxy M22 with a 6,000mAh battery.

As initially reported by MySmartPrice, the US FCC site shows that the Samsung phone with the model number SM-225FV/DS supports 9V/ 1.67A (15W) and 9V/ 2.77A (25W) charging capabilities. Since the model number appears to be associated with the Samsung Galaxy M22, the 25W charging could naturally be one of its key highlights.

It is, however, important to note that while the Samsung Galaxy M22 appears to have 25W charging support on the hardware side, it is not likely to deliver a faster charging experience out-of-the-box, as the phone is likely to come bundled with a 15W charger (EP-TA200). This could be a cost-saving move by the company.

Samsung Galaxy M22 specifications (expected)

The US FCC certification site also indicates that the Samsung Galaxy M22 would come with Bluetooth v5.0 (Bluetooth LE), NFC, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac connectivity. The phone also appears to have dual-SIM support along with 4G LTE.

If we look at the rumour mill, the Samsung Galaxy M22 could share similarities with the Galaxy A22 that debuted earlier this month alongside the Galaxy A22 5G. However, the upcoming M-series phone is said to have a larger 6,000mAh battery over the 5,000mAh one available on the Galaxy A22.

Other specifications of the Samsung Galaxy M22 may include a 6.4-inch AMOLED display, MediaTek Helio G80 SoC, and a 48-megapixel primary rear camera sensor. The smartphone could also run on Android 11 with the latest One UI on top.

The listing on the US FCC site shows that the Samsung Galaxy M22 received the certification from the regulator just Monday, June 21. It is, thus, safe to assume that Samsung may take some more time to make its new smartphone official.

Latest News Today – Fast & Furious 9 Trailer Prepares the Family for John

New Fast & Furious 9 trailer is out in English, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. Universal Pictures has unveiled the new trailer for F9, whose release got delayed significantly due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Fast & Furious 9 (or F9 in some markets) was originally slated to open in May last year, but it was pushed as the world entered the first lockdown to April 2021. And then later in 2020 it was delayed again to accommodate the next Bond movie, No Time to Die, before jumping an additional month. With the US now recovering — cinemas in Europe are still shut, and India is heading back into lockdown — and the big China market open for a while, Universal is ready to release the next Fast & Furious movie.

And that’s why we have a new F9 trailer which gives us more of the zany over-the-top action that has now come to define the Fast & Furious franchise. These guys all essentially turned into superheroes along the way, and the Fast & Furious 9 trailer makes it clear that nothing can hurt them — no matter what they are launched out of or into. The four-minute F9 trailer plays out like a movie clip for the first minute, before switching into more traditional trailer fare. It then sets up the stakes: Dom’s (Vin Diesel) brother Jakob Toretto (John Cena) has got his lands on some MacGuffin that will apparently go into space to launch itself. Yes, Fast & Furious 9 is going into space. That brings everyone back, including a certain someone from the dead: Han Lue (Sung Kang).

In addition to Diesel, Cena and Kang, Fast & Furious 9 also stars Michelle Rodriguez as Dom’s wife Letty Ortiz, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, Ludacris as Tej Parker, Jordana Brewster as Dom’s sister Mia Toretto, Nathalie Emmanuel as Megan Ramsey, Helen Mirren as Magdalene Shaw, Charlize Theron as Fast & Furious 8 villain Cipher, Lucas Black as Sean Boswell, Bow Wow as Twinkie and Jason Tobin as Earl Hu (from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift), Anna Sawai as Elle, Michael Rooker as Buddy, and Cardi B as Leysa. Finn Cole, Vinnie Bennett, Ozuna, and Francis Ngannou have undisclosed roles on F9.

Justin Lin is back in the director’s seat, for the first time since Fast & Furious 6. He has also directed Tokyo Drift and Fast Five. Lin also co-wrote the F9 screenplay with Daniel Casey. Lin and Diesel also produced Fast & Furious 9 along with Neal H. Moritz, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Joe Roth, Clayton Townsend, and Samantha Vincent. Moritz’s Original Film, Diesel’s One Race Films, and Roth/ Kirschenbaum Films produced F9 for Universal Pictures. Fast & Furious 9 was made on reported budget of over $200 million (roughly Rs. 1,500 crores).

Fast & Furious 9 is out May 19 in South Korea, June 25 in India and the US, and July 8 in the UK. Whether it actually releases in India on time will entirely depend on how the country is faring with the second COVID-19 wave. On Tuesday, India saw 1,84,372 new cases.

Oppo Reno 5F With Quad Rear Cameras, 30W Fast Charging | Sidnaz Blog

Oppo Reno 5F has been teased by the company on its Kenya website. The phone seems to have a different design for the back compared to the other Oppo Reno 5 series phones – Oppo Reno 5, Oppo Reno 5 Pro, and Oppo Reno 5 Pro+. On the front, the Oppo Reno 5F has a hole-punch cut out for the selfie camera and a relatively thick chin. The company has also teased some of the specifications for the phone, along with the date for the announcement, and also what seems like the sale date.

Oppo Reno 5F launch and availability

Oppo’s Kenya website has a dedicated page for a new upcoming member of the Oppo Reno 5 lineup called the Oppo Reno 5F. It appears that the phone will be available on March 22 as per the website, but this may actually be the date for the official announcement, as there is a timer going on the website that is counting down to March 26, which may be the date the phone goes on sale in the country.

Oppo Reno 5F specifications

The webpage also shows some of the specifications of the Oppo Reno 5F. The phone will have a quad rear camera setup that is housed in a rectangular camera module. This orientation is different from the other phones in the Oppo Reno 5 series. Additionally, a report by GSMArena states there is a 48-megapixel primary sensor on the back but we weren’t able to independently verify this. The Oppo Reno 5F has a hole-punch cut out for the selfie camera and comes with a 4,310mAh battery that supports 30W VOOC Flash Charge 4.0. The phone will support AI colour portrait mode and dual-view video mode.

A 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port can be spotted at the bottom of the Oppo Reno 5F which has an “Ultra Slim Body.”

The Oppo Reno 5F may be a toned down version of the Oppo Reno 5 4G that launched in China at the end of December 2020. It carries the same battery capacity but comes with slower charging speed compared to the 50W fast charging on the 4G Oppo Reno 5.
