Alerted by locals, cops and fire officials swung into action with no clear information on number people stuck in the car. It took 8 hours of rescue operation to finally bring out the submerged car with only the former SI’s body trapped inside.
District police said that the car driven by ex-SI Pappaiah Naik was speeding on the stretch between Kothapalli and Husnabad when it veered off the road and fell into the huge open well.
A video captured by locals showed the car slowly sinking. By the time police reached the spot and some locals jumped into the water, the car was invisible.
Later, officials of fire and revenue department came in and a crane was also brought to the spot. By then a huge crowd had gathered around the well.
Swimmers finally found the car but by then officials feared people inside would have long been dead.
Rescuers tied the car with a rope and pulled it out with great difficulty after more than 8 hours with the lone body inside. Till the car was brought out no one knew exactly how many were stuck in it.

Telangana: Karimnagar back in focus as TRS, BJP eye | Sidnaz Blog

HYDERABAD: Karimnagar district, home to Telangana sentiment and statehood movement, is back in sharp focus with recent political developments involving ousted health minister Eatala Rajender vis-a-vis TRS as byelection for Huzurabad assembly constituency in the district looks imminent with Eatala resigning as an MLA on Friday.
While Eatala is set to come out with all guns blazing and win the bypoll at all costs, the TRS will go at full throttle to defeat the former minister who has been winning the seat since 2009. Karimnagar gave a rude jolt to the TRS in 2019 general elections when BJP’s Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who is now state party president, won the Lok Sabha seat against then sitting MP B Vinod Kumar.
Analysts said the district had several leaders who were vocal during the statehood movement and Huzurabad bypoll will be seen as a battle between the ideologues. “The BJP deployed another Telangana ideologue Swamy Goud, former legislative council chairman, to woo Eatala into the saffron party sums up everything as to which way the wind is blowing,” an analyst said.
The Karimnagar parliamentary seat was once represented by K Chandrasekhar Rao. The forthcoming bypoll assumes significance for the BJP as well since its chief Sanjay represents the Lok Sabha seat now. Ever since Eatala was dropped from the KCR cabinet, Huzurabad became a focal point for both the TRS and the BJP. Though Eatala was supposed to join the BJP much earlier, there was some hesitancy in both camps over the byelection result.

Telangana: National Green Tribunal stops NTPC plant | Sidnaz Blog

HYDERABAD: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) suffered a temporary setback when the National Green Tribunal south zone bench in Chennai on Thursday kept the environment clearance (EC), issued to NTPC for its new thermal power plant in Ramagundam, in abeyance for seven months.
The NGT bench wanted a re-appraisal done as per the additional terms and conditions of the Union ministry of environment and forest. It announced this verdict in a petition filed by a local from Karimnagar district identified as Uma Maheshwar Dahagama, who alleged that the NTPC had initially applied for 2X600 MW thermal power plant and later enhanced it to 2X800 MW capacity in violation of the terms.
The EC was granted to the NTPC in 2016 and it got amended clearances in 2017 and 2020. Maheshwar alleged violations and lapses in the EC given to NTPC in his petition. The NGT bench said in its orders, “After getting the impact assessment report, the MoEF should forward the same to the expert appraisal committee (EAC) for further appraisal. The EAC has to give recommendations. All this exercise will have to be completed within seven months.”
The NTPC was also directed to conduct a fresh study regarding the area for installation of flue gas desulferisation system (a set of technologies used to remove sulfur dioxide) and do a hydro-geological impact assessment on account of the ash pond due to storage of ash slurry, besides study the impact on water quality. “The project proponent should be directed to conduct radio activity and heavy metal test of coal to be used. These tests should also be done for alternative coal and mitigative measures to be taken to reduce impact on environment,” the NGT said.
The NTPC was told to conduct a cumulative impact assessment of ambient air quality modelling for a radius of 15 km from the project area.

Instead of charging the government fixed rate of Rs 8,000 for the vial, the hospital charged Rs 50,000, the patient claimed. The patient sent a message to the authorities following which district medical and health officer (DMHO) Dr G Sujatha asked district TB control officer KV Ravinder to enquire into the matter.
A showcause notice was issued to the hospital after making a preliminary enquiry based on the complaint. “We will take stringent action against hospitals resorting to such malpractices. It will not be tolerated,” district collector K Shashanka said. He also advised the public to report the matter to officials immediately if hospitals were charging more from patients for Remdesivir.
In view of the Covid-19 situation, the district administration has allowed all 20-bed hospitals to provide treatment for the patients. Meanwhile, the district administration on Thursday asked the public to contact the control room if they have any Covid-related issues. The control room will function 24/7 till May 31.
