Latest News Today – Netflix Buys Will Smith-Led Action Thriller Movie Fast &

Will Smith is headed to Netflix (again), this time with the John Wick director. Netflix announced early on Wednesday that it has picked up worldwide rights to Fast & Loose, a new action-thriller movie directed by David Leitch and starring Smith as a “man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns that he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.” It sounds a bit like The Bourne Identity, but like in Mexico? Leitch — also known for Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw — will direct off a script by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber.

Deadline first brought word of Fast & Loose being sold to Netflix, with the world’s biggest subscription-based video streaming service confirming the news an hour or so later. Netflix has been involved ever since Fast & Loose was shopped around to all major Hollywood players starting in February, Deadline added, but it’s only now in late July that the deal has been finalised because Netflix “has taken its time in negotiating the deals.”

Both Smith and Leitch will also serve as producers on Fast & Loose, alongside Kelly McCormick for 87North, and Westbrook Studios’ Ryan Shimazaki, James Lassiter, and co-president and motion pictures head Jon Mone. STXFilms — now merged with Eros International and functioning as ErosSTX — is also a producer on Fast & Loose. No other cast is known to be attached at this point to Fast & Loose, and there’s no word on when production might begin.

Smith was last seen in the threequel Bad Boys for Life that made $426.5 million (about Rs. 3,175 crores) at the worldwide box office for Sony Pictures. He will be next seen as the titular father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams in King Richard, a Warner Bros. title that releases November 19 on HBO Max and in cinemas. Smith is currently filming on the Apple TV+ slavery drama Emancipation that was sold to the iPhone maker for over $120 million (about Rs. 893 crores). Smith’s previous major association with Netflix was the fantasy action film Bright.

Leitch’s latest movie was Hobbs & Shaw with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham — it made over $760 million (about Rs. 5,657 crores) at the worldwide box office for Universal Pictures. His next feature-length directorial venture is action thriller Bullet Train, which finds five assassins discovering on a Japanese bullet train that their assignments are interconnected. Bullet Train stars Brad Pitt, Joey King, Andrew Koji, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon, Lady Gaga, Hiroyuki Sanada, Karen Fukuhara, and Sandra Bullock. Sony Pictures has set an April 2022 release date for Bullet Train.

Latest News Today – Money Heist Season 5 Trailer Release Date Set for

Money Heist season 5 trailer will release in a week’s time on Monday, August 2, Netflix has announced. The release time for the first trailer was not announced, and it is also unclear if the Money Heist season 5 trailer will be available in Hindi or any other local-language versions for Indian audiences. We have reached out to Netflix India for comment on both and will update once we hear back. The upcoming fifth season will also be the final season for Álex Pina’s hit Spanish series — known as La casa de papel to Spanish-speaking viewers — which is Netflix’s second most popular non-English original series of all time, behind only Lupin.

Netflix announced the August 2 release date for the first Money Heist season 5 trailer on its social media channels on Monday evening, alongside a 21-second teaser that shows The Professor (Álvaro Morte) chained and in the hands of inspector Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri). It ends by reiterating the Money Heist season 5 trailer release date, followed by the release date of Money Heist season 5 “Volume 1” that drops September 3 on Netflix. The fifth and final season 5 is split into two five-episode parts, with “Volume 2” following towards the end of the year on December 3.

Feast Your Eyes on Six First Look Photos From Money Heist Season 5

In addition to Morte as The Professor and Nimri as Sierra, Money Heist season 5 cast also includes Úrsula Corberó as Tokyo, Itziar Ituño as Lisbon, Miguel Herrán as Rio, Jaime Lorente as Denver, Esther Acebo as Stockholm, Hovik Keuchkerian as Bogota, Rodrigo de la Serna as Palermo, Belén Cuesta as Manila, Enrique Arce as Arturo, Darko Peric as Helsinki, Luka Peros as Marseille, Fernando Cayo as Coronel Tamayo, and José Manuel Poga as Gandía. Miguel Ángel Silvestre (Sense 8) and Patrick Criado (La Gran Familia Española) are the two new major additions to the Money Heist season 5 cast.

Behind the scenes, Pina is the creator and showrunner on Money Heist — and executive producer alongside Jesús Colmenar and Cristina López Ferraz. Javier Gómez Santander is the head writer on Money Heist season 5. Here’s the official synopsis for Money Heist season 5, from Netflix:

The gang has been shut in the Bank of Spain for over 100 hours. They have managed to rescue Lisbon, but their darkest moment is upon them after losing one of their own. The Professor has been captured by Sierra and, for the first time, doesn’t have an escape plan. Just when it seems like nothing else could go wrong, an enemy comes on the scene that is much more powerful than any they’ve faced: the army. The end of the greatest heist in history is approaching, and what began as a robbery will turn into a war.

Money Heist season 5 premieres September 3 on Netflix with “Volume 1”. The final batch of five episodes, “Volume 2”, arrives December 3.

Netflix May Find No Business Like Show Business | Sidnaz Blog

Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomas Brodie-Sangster in a scene from ’The Queen’s Gambit.’

/Associated Press

It is as good a time as any for

to test a new story line. Even a lucky turn in videogames won’t free the streaming giant from the need to keep playing Hollywood’s game, though.

Netflix used its second-quarter report Tuesday afternoon to confirm previously reported plans to enter the videogame business. No timing was given, though the company said the offerings would be included in its current subscription plans at no additional cost. The company isn’t backing away from its work on movies and TV shows, but said in its letter to shareholders “since we are nearly a decade into our push into original programming, we think the time is right to learn more about how our members value games.”

That news comes as Netflix remains mired in somewhat of a post-pandemic slump. It added 1.5 million net new paying subscribers in the second quarter, which was a bit better than it had forecast but still its lowest level of growth in nearly a decade. It also projected 3.5 million net adds for the third quarter—about 29% less than what Wall Street was hoping for. That would bring the total number of new subscribers to about nine million for the first nine months of 2021. Netflix added more than 28 million paying subscribers in the same period last year.

A foray into games might make sense for a company with an intimate knowledge of the viewing habits of a user base that now numbers over 209 million. It is also a tough business to crack—even the mobile gaming market that Netflix says it expects to target initially. There are many participants, but most of the money is still made by long-established properties. Games like “Candy Crush” and “Clash of Clans” remain in the top-five grossing charts even after nearly a decade on the market.

Netflix will need to keep battling it out for video streaming eyeballs. The company expects its pace of new releases to pick up in the second half of this year; analysts from Wedbush count 42 original shows and movies expected for the third quarter alone. But the company still has its own track record to compete with: Last fall included popular shows such as “The Queen’s Gambit,” “The Crown” and “Bridgerton.” Netflix shares are down nearly 2% this year, lagging behind many internet and entertainment peers. Streaming investors hyper-focused on subscriber growth aren’t playing games.

Latest News Today – The Witcher Season 2 Teaser Trailer Out, Netflix Sets

Netflix recently unveiled the key art, premiere date, and trailer for the Henry Cavill-starrer season two of ‘The Witcher’, which will hit the streamer on December 17.

According to Deadline, the streamer partnered with ‘Cyberpunk’ and ‘The Witcher’ developer CD Projekt Red for the inaugural WitcherCon on Friday, where they unveiled news about the series and video game franchise, including a new look at ‘The Witcher’ Season 2.

This new season will follow Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, who seeks to bring Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen.

While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.

The key art shared by them builds upon the cryptic teaser Netflix shared in June during its Geeked Week event, which teased Freya Allan’s Ciri, mysterious runes, and more.

The journey of season two’s production has been a treacherous one. Production was put to a halt in November 2020 after numerous people involved in the series tested positive for COVID-19.

Just a month later, season two production came to another stop as Cavill incurred an injury on set. Production wrapped in April.

‘The Witcher’ Season 2 is set to premiere on December 17. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is serving as executive producer and showrunner. Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub, and Jaroslaw Sawko are also executive producing.

24 of the Best Comic Book Adaptations That Aren’t Marvel or | Sidnaz Blog

Another movie based on a European import, Dredd comes from the British comics anthology 2001 AD, the character having been created by John Wagner, Carlos Ezquerra, and Pat Mills. It’s, of course, the second go at bringing the character to the big screen and, while the Sylvester Stallone version has its proponents, this is the one that gets it right. It’s a dark, dystopian, and very effective action thriller in the style of The Raid, and yet somehow made no money and was seen by no one.

Could We Really Colonize Venus? The Out-of-Touch Adults’ | Sidnaz Blog

I’ve tested the global youth-culture internet and the results have come back positive: Everything is looking up this week. We’re even talking about colonizing Venus, which is cool…if not impossible.

This week in TikTok: Brently and Jeffery make new friends

I’m gonna kick off the heartwarming positivity with the story of Brently and Jeffery. These two Canadian kids like movies, comic books, and slush puppies, but they don’t have many other friends. So they turned to TikTok.

“If you live in the Moncton, New Brunswick area or are just generally in New Brunswick, we’d really like to be your friend ‘cause it’s just the two of us right now, you know?” Brently said in a recent video.

The reaction was mixed. Haters said the video was depressing and pathetic. Others said Brently and Jeffery are awesome, and you’d be lucky to hang out with them. But either way, the video went viral, and soon Brently had thousands of new follows and millions of views. So he organized a meet-up, and lots of awesome people came, and they even brought sodie pop! Sometimes the internet isn’t evil at all.

This week in streaming: I Think You Should Leave season 2 is live

If you haven’t seen Tim Robinson’s I Think You Should Leave, I’m jealous that you get to experience it for the first time. It’s the funniest, smartest show on TV. ITYSL delves deeply into humor-through-cringe with characters whose inability to navigate social norms inevitably leads to public explosions of embarrassment. It’s hilarious; the perfect show for the internet generation. Season one led to the widely shared Hot Dog Guy meme—a man dressed in a hot dog costume vowing to get to the bottom of the mystery of who crashed the weinermobile, a perfect encapsulation of the nightmare of 2020— so get in there and check it out before it’s memefied. It’s on Netflix. And while you’re at it, track down Robinson’s The Detroiters, a criminally under-appreciated show on Comedy Central.

This week in video games: American troops pulling out of Afghani Pokémon gyms

Last week, American and NATO troops pulled out of Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, leaving behind both Afghani civilians facing an uncertain future and some weak ass Pokémon. When it was filled with thousands of young troops, Bagram hosted a thriving Pokémon Go community, with hotly contested gyms defended by only the strongest Pokémon. Now that the troops are gone, there’s no one to battle. Bagram Air Force base’s Pokémon gyms, once home to only the strongest, highest-CP Pokémon are now defended by weaklings.

According to The Stars and Stripes, a piddly little Lotad has defended the Warrior Chapel at Bagram for ten days, and an Aron has been holding down another gym for two weeks. There’s a bright side, though, as John Sutter, a Pokémon playing military man, pointed out. “I’m sure somewhere in Afghanistan, some kid is bragging about how he took control of an American Pokémon gym,” he said.

This week in global pandemics: Kids faking positive COVID tests

Clever British schoolchildren are reportedly falsifying COVID test results to take days off from school. Before it was banned by TikTok, #fakecovidtest was a thriving hashtag with over six million views. It was full of teens suggesting dumping Coca-Cola, lemon juice, and other substances on COVID tests to fake a positive result.

Surprisingly, it looks like the TikTok videos weren’t just trolls: You can, apparently, break a lateral flow COVID test by dousing it in an acidic liquid like lemon juice, but positive results on that test would likely lead to a not-currently-hackable PCR test for confirmation. Plus, it’s just not a good idea.

“We are sure this involves a very small minority of pupils, and that for the most part the tests are used correctly,” Geoff Barton, General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, told Britain’s iNews.

“However, we would urge parents to ensure that tests are not being misused, and we would suggest to pupils who are interested in chemical reactions that the best place to learn about them is in chemistry lessons in school,” he added, Britishly.

Viral Video of the Week: How to terraform Venus

I can’t even figure out how to keep a basil plant alive in my backyard, but the science-based YouTubers at Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell are figuring out how to terraform the planet Venus. The temperature on Venus is hot enough to melt lead, and the atmosphere is made up almost entirely of CO2, so it’s not going to be easy. The plan is to clean up the CO2 from the atmosphere by building mirrors large enough to block all sunlight from the planet, freezing the deadly atmosphere, and then sending the CO2 elsewhere. From there, we’re going to transport huge blocks of liquid water from the moon Europa somehow, then create miniature artificial suns out of space-mirrors in order to… you know what? It’s not going to work. But it’s a fun video anyway. It’s nice to have hope that we’ll have a livable planet in the future.

Latest News Today – Red Notice Release Date: Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, Ryan

Red Notice — the Netflix action movie with Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds — now has a release date: November 12. Johnson shared a first look Thursday evening on his Twitter account, which shows the three leads all dressed up and ready to go. Reynolds and Johnson appear in tuxedos, with Gadot in a red dress that is screaming femme fatale. In Red Notice, Gadot is the world’s most wanted art thief, Reynolds is the world’s greatest con artist, and Johnson is the FBI’s top profiler and the world’s greatest tracker. Rawson Marshall Thurber (Skyscraper, We’re the Millers) is the director and writer.

“You’re officially on notice. Netflix’s biggest movie ever #RedNotice premieres in your living rooms around the globe on Nov. 12,” Johnson wrote in his tweet. Reynolds followed up minutes later with a characteristic caption: “True story. They made my entire tuxedo out of one of The Rock’s socks. Also, true… #RedNotice has a release date of Nov. 12th on Netflix. Last piece of gossip: Gal Gadot is wonderful.” An hour or so later, Gadot chimed in with her own tweet: “I can’t wait for you to see this. Thank you Rawson Thurber for bringing me onto this project. Being able to work with my friends Ryan Reynolds & The Rock was the icing on the cake.”

Johnson, and Thurber (via Bad Version, Inc.) are also producers on Red Notice alongside Beau Flynn for Flynn Picture Company, and Dany and Hiram Garcia for Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions. Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy), Chris Diamantopoulos (HBO’s Silicon Valley), Ivan Mbakop (Loop), Rafael Petardi (Siberia), Guy Nardulli (Why Women Kill), Alexander Perkins (The Salisbury Poisonings), Ethan Herschenfeld (Boardwalk Empire), and newcomer Brenna Marie Narayan also have roles on Red Notice. Markus Förderer (Bliss) is the cinematographer, Michael L. Sale (Skyscraper) is the editor, and Steve Jablonsky (Transformers) provides background music.

Here’s the official synopsis for Red Notice from Netflix:

An Interpol-issued Red Notice is a global alert to hunt and capture the world’s most wanted. But when a daring heist brings together the FBI’s top profiler (Johnson) and two rival criminals (Gadot, Reynolds), there’s no telling what will happen.

Red Notice is out November 12 on Netflix in India and around the world. It is one of Netflix’s most expensive movies with an estimated budget of $200 million (roughly Rs. 1,492 crores).

20 Obscenely Patriotic Movies to Watch on Streaming This | Sidnaz Blog

On a related note, the initial Rocky movies all work on different levels, but by the third, the formula was getting tired, and so the fourth took a gamble by going over the top (not to be confused with Over the Top) patriotic, and it paid off in a big way, earning the biggest box office of the series, before or since.

After boxer Ivan Drago (future movie He-Man Dolph Lundgren) literally kills Apollo Creed with the entire Soviet Union behind him, rugged individualist Rocky goes rogue, getting Drago to agree to an unsanctioned match in the USSR. It’s all laid out invia an all-time great, utterly memorable training montage: while Drago trains with a whole team, modern equipment, and the best steroids communism had on offer, Rocky does it the good old-fashioned way: by chopping down trees and pretending to be a doggie pulling Paulie around on a sled. Like a fuckin’ man.

Without giving too much away, the ending sees Rocky winning over the Soviet audience and earning the applause of Premier Mikhail Gorbachev himself. And that’s the story of the fall of communism.
