Latest News Today – India vs New Zealand WTC Final Live Score, Day 5: Rohit

India vs New Zealand Live Score: India conceded a 32-run lead in the first innings.© Twiter/BCCI

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a steady start in the second innings in session three on Day 5. Earlier, India struck regularly with the second new ball but New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson played a gutsy knock of 49 runs to help his side take a crucial 32-run lead in the first innings. Mohammed Shami claimed four wickets while Ishant Sharma took two wickets on Day 5 to dismiss New Zealand for 249 runs. The ill-fated inaugural World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand resumed at Southampton on Tuesday after an hour’s delay following the latest rain interruption to blight the showpiece match. 91 overs are scheduled to be bowled in three sessions of play today, BCCI confirmed. After rain meant the whole of Monday’s play was washed without a ball bowled — the second time in the match this had had happened after Friday’s opening day went the same way — there were hopes the match would resume as scheduled at 10:30 am local time (0930 GMT). But instead players and supporters at south coast county Hampshire’s headquarters had to wait until 11:30 am (1030 GMT) instead. (LIVE SCORECARD)

Latest News Today – Ravichandran Ashwin’s Wife Prithi Shares Family’s Ordeal

IPL 2021: R Ashwin took a break from IPL to support his family in fighting Covid-19.© BCCI/IPL

India and Delhi Capitals cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin’s wife Prithi posted on social media to share how she and her relatives dealt with Covid-19 after a total of 10 people in her family tested positive for the virus. Ashwin had to take a break from IPL 2021 to support his family in the fight against Covid-19 – a disease that has already claimed over 200,000 lives in India and more than three million globally. Prithi said six adults and four children had contracted the virus in her family and the children were “the vehicles of transmission”

Revealing that the family members were down with the virus in different cities and hospitals, Prithi urged her followers to get vaccinated and give themselves “the best chance to fight” the virus.

“I guess physical health will recover faster than mental health. Days 5-8 were the absolute worst for me. Everybody was there, offering help yet there’s no one with you. Most isolating disease. Please do reach out and seek help,” she said.

Several cricketers at the IPL bubble and outside have tested positive over the past two months, including Ashwin’s Delhi Capitals teammate Axar Patel, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Devdutt Padikkal and former India captain Sachin Tendulkar among others.

Ashwin, who played five matches this season and picked up one wicket, married Prithi in 2011 and the couple has two daughters.

Off spinner and lower-order batsman Ashwin has played 78 Tests, 111 ODIs and 46 T20Is for India since his debut in 2010.

He has played 159 IPL games and has 139 wickets to his name.

Latest News Today – Ravichandran Ashwin Says “Taking Break” From IPL 2021

Delhi Capitals spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said that he is “taking a break” from Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 after the team’s Super Over win against SunRisers Hyderabad. Ashwin took to Twitter early on Monday to write that his family and extended family are facing a fight against COVID-19. “I would be taking a break from this years IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times,” he wrote in his tweet. “I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction,” he added, before thanking the franchise.

“Extending our full support to you in these difficult times,” Delhi Capitals wrote in a reply to Ashwin’s tweet.

“Sending you and your family all the strength and prayers from all of us at Delhi Capitals,” they added.

Ashwin played DC’s match against SRH on Sunday.

DC rode on a half-century by Prithvi Shaw and handy knocks from Rishabh Pant and Steve Smith to post a total of 159/4.

Despite a good start courtesy of Jonny Bairstow an a half-century from Kane Williamson, DC seemed to have sealed the win after Axar Patel struck twice in an over, with SRH needing 28 off the final two overs. However, debutant J Suchith — coming in at no.9 — hit two boundaries and a six as he and Williamson managed to tie the game and take the match to a Super Over.

Ashwin gave away 27 runs for no wickets in his four overs.

In the Super Over, bowled by Axar, Williamson and Warner managed to score just seven runs. They would have had eight, but Warner was found to have run one short.

With Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant sent in to face Rashid Khan, the Capitals managed to pull off the chase off the final delivery to seal their fourth win of the season.

IND vs ENG: Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin Shine As | Sidnaz Blog

India defeated England by 10 wickets in the third Test in Ahmedabad in a rare two-day win in the longest format of the game. As many as 17 wickets fell on Thursday, Day Two, when bowlers from both teams bamboozled the batsmen, who couldn’t pick deliveries that turned from the ones that went straight on after pitching. India chased down a paltry target of 49 runs in the final session of the second day after England were bowled out for 81 — their lowest-ever total in India — in the second innings. England’s slump with the bat overshadowed the one India endured earlier in the day as they went from 99 for 3 overnight to 145 all out inside the first session. Amidst all the tumbling wickets Ravichandran Ashwin reached the milestone of 400 Test wickets, becoming the fastest Indian to the feat.

Axar Patel added to his first-innings returns of 6 for 38 with another five-wicket haul in the second innings. His 5 for 32 included wickets of England’s top four batsmen – Zak Crawley (0), Dom Sibley (7), Jonny Bairstow (0) and Joe Root (19).

A 31-run stand between Root and Ben Stokes (25) was the only substantial partnership in England’s second innings.

Stokes (25) was trapped lbw by Ashwin, who then bowled Ollie Pope (12) and got Jofra Archer (0) lbw as well to reach 400 wickets.

Jack Leach (9) was caught in the slips and James Anderson (0) was caught behind as England collapsed for the second time in the match, handing India a target too easy to chase even on a tough pitch.

Rohit added to his half-century in the first innings with an unbeaten 25 and finished the match with a six a short while after the dinner break.

Earlier, India lost wickets in a heap in their first innings as they lost their last seven batsmen for just 42 runs.

Rohit (66) was the only Indian batsman to get a substantial score even as Ajinkya Rahane (7), Rishabh Pant (1), Washington Sundar (0), Axar Patel (0) all fell in quick succession.

Root made merry with the ball, picking up a five-wicket haul to accelerate India’s collapse even as Leach returned four wickets.

England were dismissed for 112 in the first innings on Day One.

The win gave India a 2-1 lead in the four-match series, crushing England’s hopes of making the World Test Championship final.

If India manage to not lose the last Test, also in Ahmedabad, they will make the final of the Championship.

IND vs ENG: Virat Kohli Interviews “Man Of The Moment” | Sidnaz Blog

For off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin the game of cricket is everything, without which he says he feels literally lost. On Tuesday Ashwin revealed how he worked on his skills during the Covid-induced lockdown and touched upon how he was not desperate to succeed in the recent tour of Australia where India managed to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against all odds. “Look, I think, the whole pandemic thing and the way we were shut off, I was thinking what is going to happen? If you take this game away from me, I am literally lost. Even when I am not playing some formats of the game, I am always switching the TV on like watching the preview and what is happening,” Ashwin told India skipper Virat Kohli in a video posted on the official website of BCCI.

“I thought the game is not on anymore, I was reflecting upon myself and how I can learn from people. In the past when I have toured abroad, it was more of desperation to prove others wrong. But this time when I went to Australia, it was about proving to myself what I am capable of.”

The off-spinner also highlighted how the likes of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have never been desperate to perform overseas and how they always looks to better their skills.

“Over the years, I have noticed how some players are really balanced when they perform, the likes of you and Jinx (Ajinkya Rahane). When you (Kohli) went back to England in 2018, you wanted to do well but really within yourself and that was what I wanted to embrace,” said Ashwin.

Ashwin’s remarks came as India achieved an emphatic 317-run win against England in the second Test of the ongoing four-match series.

As a result, the series stands levelled at 1-1 and Virat Kohli-led side has also reached the second spot in World Test Championship (WTC) standings.

The off-spinner took an eight-wicket haul in the second Test, along with his 106-run knock in the second innings as India registered an emphatic win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

In the second innings, Ashwin shared a crucial 96-run partnership with Kohli and this helped the hosts to post a healthy target in front of England.

When Kohli asked Ashwin about giving such a performance in front of his home crowd, he replied: “I do not know, for the first time in my career, I feel blank. When I went out to bat yesterday, I was feeling blank, I came and asked you can I start sweeping? That’s exactly how I am feeling, zero emotions and feelings inside, rarely I find myself like this.

“You know me very well, my mind is always ticking. For a change, it is really blank. That partnership between us really set the tone and I am so pleased for us.

“I had asked you about wanting to sweep, if you had asked me to take some time, then I might have acted differently.”

Kohli also touched upon the partnership with Ashwin and he said: “We had a special partnership in the second innings, the game was tentatively poised, Ash came out and he changed the momentum of the whole game.”

India remains in contention to make the final of the ICC World Test Championship after this win.

The victory in Chennai on Tuesday has lifted India to the second position with 69.7 percentage points on the points table but they cannot afford to lose another match as they need to win 2-1 or 3-1 to qualify for the final of the maiden edition of the Championship.

England, who led the table after winning the opening Test, have slipped to the fourth spot with 67.0 percentage points.

They can still qualify, but for that, they must win both remaining matches of the series against India.

IND vs ENG: Ravichandran Ashwin Hits 5th Test Century, | Sidnaz Blog

Ravichandran Ashwin’s wife Prithi Narayanan is one of the India off-spinner’s most vocal fans on social media. She was seen cheering him and the team on with several excited tweets during India’s epic Test series win in Australia last month. On Monday, as her husband hit his fifth Test century on a turning pitch in Chennai, she was one of the first to react to his tremendous knock. However, this time there were no witty lines or any of that all-caps excitement as seen during the Australia series, as she kept it sweet and simple with a heart emoji.

She tweeted again, later, saying she was “too overwhelmed” after his stunning knock.

“Too overwhelmed to say much. Let’s wrap up this game now,” she wrote.

Ashwin has been India’s star with both bat and ball during the ongoing second Test against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ashwin first demolished visitors’ batting line-up, picking up five wickets as they were bundled out for 134 in response to India’s 329.

Then, Ashwin came in to bat with India at 106/6, and stitched a 96-run partnership with captain Virat Kohli, who fell after a brilliant 62.

Then, batting with the tail, Ashwin raced away to his fifth Test century, before being bowled by pacer Ollie Stone.

It was the third instance of the off-spinner scoring a century and taking a five-wicket haul in the same match.

On a pitch that has been criticised for being a minefield, Ashwin showed that with the right technique and temperament, batsmen could shine, as he hit 13 boundaries and a six against England’s bowling attack.

Ashwin’s heroics saw India set England a target of 482 to win as the hosts look to level the four-match series.

AUS vs IND: Ravichandran Ashwin Was Crawling On The | Sidnaz Blog

Ravichandran Ashwin’s herculean effort in the third Test against Australia in Sydney had come even as he had been battling a severe back pain, as revealed by his wife Prithi Narayanan. Prithi had tweeted moments after India’s great escape at the Sydney Cricket Ground that Ashwin “could not stand up straight” on the fifth morning of the Test. Prithi elaborated on what transpired on the fateful morning and how she and her husband dealt with the situation. “By the time I woke up in the morning, his pain was really bad. ‘I had to crawl to the physio room,’ he said. Luckily, that was the next room. He couldn’t bend, straighten, or get up after sitting. I was shocked,” wrote Prithi.

“I had not seen him like this before. ‘What are you going to do? How can you bat?’ I asked. ‘I don’t know. I will figure out. Just let me get to the ground,’ he replied. That’s when Aadhya (Ashwin and Prithi’s daughter) cracked her ‘put leave, appa‘ (take a leave from work, dad) comment,” Prithi wrote in a column for The Indian Express

“If only. Even after he left us, to be frank, I was half-expecting a call in a couple of hours from someone in the team that he had been taken to hospital for scans.”

Prithi revealed Ashwin had been crawling on the floor on Monday morning, the last day of the Sydney Test.

“Over the years, I have seen him handle pain and know he has a high threshold for it, but I had never seen him like this. He was crawling on the floor. He couldn’t get up or bend down,” Prithi wrote.

And while Ashwin’s pain came to light only after the Test, for Prithi, an insider, the trouble had begun on the fourth evening of the game.

“The first signs of trouble had come the earlier evening, at the end of the fourth day’s play. I had seen him on television in some sort of pain a couple of times,” Prithi wrote.

“When he walks into the room, he usually has just a few minutes before he rushes to the physio or masseur table and then meetings, if any, and comes back late. ‘Are you fine, physically?’ I asked him and he shot back, ‘Didn’t you see me bowl?!’ and said he felt he had a tweak in the back that was beginning to hurt.

“He felt during warm-ups that morning that he stepped awkwardly and did something to his back.”

As it turned out, Ashwin batted for over three hours, 128 balls and across two sessions with a tweaked back for his 39 not out and along with Hanuma Vihari (23 not out off 161 balls) helped India save the Test and keep the series level at 1-1.
