Latest News Today – After Talks With Amit Shah, Mizoram Chief Minister On

After Talks With Amit Shah, Mizoram Chief Minister On Dialogue With Assam

Assam and Mizoram have been engaged in a tense border stand-off since July 26

The boundary dispute with Assam will be resolved amicably through dialogue, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said today after a telephonic discussion with Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He has appealed to the people of Mizoram to prevent any possible escalation of the situation.

“As per telephonic discussion with Union Home Minister and Assam Chief Minister, we agreed to resolve the Mizoram-Assam border issue amicably through meaningful dialogue,” the Mizoram Chief Minister said on Twitter.

Assam and Mizoram have been engaged in a tense border stand-off after seven people, including six Assam Police personnel, were killed and scores injured in a clash along the Mizoram-Assam inter-state border on July 26.

Both the states have refused to honour the summons that were issued by each other following the clashes. Mizoram has named Assam Chief Minister and other top officials in its FIR over the incident.

The first information report that was filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including “attempt to murder”, said Assam police personnel, acting under instructions from Mr Sarma himself, refused to have an “amicable dialogue” with the Mizoram police on the day of the incident.

Mr Sarma, on his part, has asked why a neutral agency can’t investigate the matter.

“Will be very happy to join in any investigation. But why the case is not being handed over to a neutral agency, especially when the place of occurrence is well within the constitutional territory of Assam? Have already conveyed this to @ZoramthangaCM ji,” Mr Sarma tweeted.

The Assam government has received support from opposition parties in the ongoing stand-off. A 19-member all-party delegation of Assam assembly, headed by Speaker Biswajit Daimary, will visit Delhi to request the Centre to resolve the state’s boundary dispute with Mizoram at the earliest.

The two states have been at odds over the boundary for decades, but Monday’s clashes flared up over an alleged construction by Mizoram in the disputed 198-square-mile stretch on the inter-state border — Lailapur under Dhalai of Cachar district in southern Assam and Vairengte in Kolasib district of northern Mizoram.

At least five companies (total of 500 troops) of the Central Reserve Police Force have been deployed in the violence-hit regions.

Two more companies are on standby.

Latest News Today – Amit Shah On Pegasus Scandal: Aap Chronology Samjhiye

'Aap Chronology Samjhiye': Amit Shah On Pegasus Scandal

Amit Shah spoke on a snowballing scandal of spyware allegedly used to hack phones in 2017-2019.

New Delhi:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, attacked by the opposition today over an explosive report on the use of Israeli Pegasus spyware allegedly to target politicians, journalists and others, called it “a report by disrupters for the obstructers”. Alleging that the report was timed to cause disruptions in parliament, he even used a phrase his critics have often used to target him: “Aap chronology samajhiye (understand the chronology).”

Mr Shah’s comments added to a snowballing scandal of spyware allegedly used to hack phones between 2017 and 2019. Over 300 numbers are from India, though there is no proof that all were hacked.

“People have often associated this phrase with me in lighter vein but today I want to seriously say – the timing of the selective leaks, the disruptions…Aap Chronology Samajhiye!” the Home Minister said in a statement.

“This is a report by the disrupters for the obstructers. Disrupters are global organisations which do not like India to progress. Obstructers are political players in India who do not want India to progress. People of India are very good at understanding this chronology and connection,” he added.

Among the names on the list of potential targets of snooping is Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee and election strategist Prashant Kishor. Two union ministers, Prahlad Patel and Ashwini Vaishnaw, are also on the list. So are around 40 journalists.

The Congress accused the government of “treason” and compromising on national security and demanded an investigation into the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.

“Our first demand is the immediate sacking of Minister of Home and Internal security Amit Shah and a probe into the role of the prime minister in the matter,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said.

Amit Shah’s use of the phrase “Aap chronology samajhiye” became hugely controversial when he declared in 2019 that the government would bring the Citizenship Amendment Act and after that the National Citizen’s Register. The phrase became viral and was repeatedly used by the opposition in its attacks on the government.

Latest News Today – Yogi Adityanath Visits Amit Shah, To Meet PM Tomorrow

Yogi Adityanath is likely to meet PM Modi tomorrow. (File photo)

  • This is his first meeting with top leaders since UP BJP turnmoil began
  • Yogi Adityanath’s meeting with PM, JP Nadda likely tomorrow
  • His visit comes a day after Congress’s Jitin Prasada joined the BJP

New Delhi:

Yogi Adityanath is in Delhi for meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top BJP leaders amid reports of dissent in Uttar Pradesh. This is his first face-time with the Delhi leadership since turmoil started in the UP BJP last month, with a section flagging criticism of the Yogi Adityanath government’s handling of Covid and the impact it may have on the party in polls next year.

The Chief Minister began his two-day visit with a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah this afternoon. He will meet PM Modi and BJP chief JP Nadda tomorrow.

The visit comes a day after the BJP scored a high-profile recruit from the Congress, Jitin Prasada, a top Brahmin face in UP.

Mr Prasada is expected to play a key role in the BJP’s UP reset ahead of the state election, especially in correcting the optics of a government perceived by a section of the state’s Brahmins as being pro-Thakur (Yogi Adityanath’s caste).

With the elections less than a year away, many MPs and MLAs have gone public with their adverse assessment of their own government’s Covid management.

Last week, senior BJP leader BK Santosh led a central mission to Uttar Pradesh to take feedback and carry out a review in meetings with ministers, MLAs, MPs and the Chief Minister too. A senior leader of the BJP’s ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Dattatreya Hosbole, had recommended the feedback session after reportedly sensing disenchantment in the cadre during his visit.

The BJP has shut down any talk of replacing Yogi Adityanath. He will lead the party in the UP polls but other changes are likely, sources have said.

The Chief Minister is expected to bring in new ministers in his cabinet with caste and regional equations in mind, the sources say.

Another significant addition to the UP government could be former bureaucrat AK Sharma, known to be among PM Modi’s trusted aides.

Yogi Adityanath’s talks with central leaders are likely to focus on this exercise.

The BJP is eager to minimize the damage done to its government in UP, which was seen to be caught unprepared by the deadly second surge of Covid. Visuals of bodies floating in the Ganga river or buried in shallow graves caused shock and anger. The party’s MLAs and MPs also went public with their complaints against their own government.

New Delhi:

On World Bicycle Day, Kajol picked an epic sequence from her 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to wish her fans on social media. The scene we are talking about here is when Kajol had an accident while cycling with Shah Rukh Khan for the song Yeh Ladka Hai Deewana. On Thursday, Kajol posted a short clip from the aforementioned song that features her falling off the bicycle she was riding with Shah Rukh. “And a very Happy Bicycle Day to you too,” wrote Kajol with a rolling eye emoji and the hashtag #WorldBicycleDay. In the comments section, filmmaker Karan Johar, who directed Kajol, Rani Mukerji and Shah Rukh Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, hilariously wrote: “Oh god! I remember this so clearly! And can’t forget what happened after” and dropped a laughing icon.

Here’s what actually happened when Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan were shooting for the track Yeh Ladka Hai Deewana – in several interview earlier, Kajol had revealed that while filming the song, she lost her balance and fell off the cycle, after which she bruised her knee and also “lost her memory.” She only remembered one person – her husband Ajay Devgn. Karan Johar called Ajay Devgn on set and helped Kajol after she regained consciousness.

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated SunRisers Hyderabad by 10 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on Sunday. It was KKR’s 100th win in the IPL and their co-owner Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter to express his happiness on his side’s century of wins in the franchise-based tournament. “Good to hav our 100th IPL match win. Well done boys…@KKRiders @prasidh43 @DineshKarthik @NitishRana_27#Rahul @Russell12A @harbhajan_singh ( good to see u even if briefly ) @Sah75official @patcummins30 actually all were so good to watch,” Shah Rukh Khan tweeted.

In the match, SRH captain David Warner won the toss and invited Kolkata to bat. Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill got KKR off to a solid start, stitching a 50-plus stand for the opening wicket.

Gill fell for 15 but Rana kept going and slammed a stroke-filled half-century. In a bid to accelerate, Rana perished for 80.

He got good support from Rahul Tripathi who also scored a fine half-century. A late cameo from Dinesh Karthik (22 off nine balls) helped KKR to a competitive total of 187 for six from their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, SRH lost their skipper Warner and Saha cheaply. Manish Pandey and Jonny Bairstow kept scored half-centuries to keep their side in the hunt but KKR bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals as SRH eventually fell 10 runs short of the 188-run target.

Latest News Today – Sharad Pawar-Amit Shah ‘Meet’, Sena Barbs Fuel

Sharad Pawar-Amit Shah 'Meet', Sena Barbs Fuel Maharashtra Alliance Fire

The Shiv Sena has said Anil Deshmukh forgot about the sharpness required as Home Minister.

A stinging editorial in Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna today targeted Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, indicating that the relation between the ruling allies of Maharashtra is fast turning sour. Though the Sena had initially wanted Mr Deshmukh out after the controversy over former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh’s corruption allegations, it changed stance after Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar’s firm stance against his removal.

The editorial comes a day after Sharad Pawar and his party colleague Praful Patel reportedly met Union Minister Amit Shah at a farmhouse in Ahmedabad. Mr Shah has not confirmed the meeting, but issued a cryptic comment that “Everything need not be made public”.

Titled “Doubting Maharashtra’s character, the botched damage control” – the editorial this morning said Mr Deshmukh “forgot about the sharpness required as home minister”.

Calling him an “accidental home minister”, the editorial said, “Sharad Pawar had handed over this post to Deshmukh after Jayant Patil and Dilip Valse-Patil refused it. This post has dignity and status… No person sitting on the post of Home Minister of the state can work by being surrounded by dubious characters”.

“If a junior officer like Sachin Waze was running a (money) collection racket, why was the home minister not aware of it? Maharashtra government’s character has been questioned many times due to what happened in past few months,” the editorial read, referring to former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh’s allegations against Mr Desmukh which had opened a political Pandora’s box.

The editorial has upset the NCP. Senior party leader and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar – the nephew of Sharad Pawar – said no one should “play spoilsport” in a coalition government.

“The allotment of cabinet berths is the prerogative of head of every political party (in the coalition). No one should play spoilsport when the three-party government is functioning properly,” he said.

The rift comes as the tripartite state government tries to keep an even keel amid the multiple controversies unravelled after the Mukesh Ambani explosives scare.

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, replaced in the wake of the alleged mishandling of the case, later accused Anil Deshmukh of asking the force to collect Rs 100 crore from the city’s pubs and restaurants, with Mumbai cop Sachin Waze as the lynchpin of his alleged operation.

Mr Waze is now under arrest for his alleged role in planting the car on the city’s Carmichael Road. A Shiv Sena member, he was reinstated into the police force allegedly at Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s behest.

Over the last week, both Shiv Sena and the NCP have repeatedly assured that the government will complete its five-year term.

Amit Shah Cancels Bengal Rally Citing Chopper Snag, | Sidnaz Blog

Amit Shah Cancels Bengal Rally Citing Chopper Snag, Trinamool Mocks BJP

Amit Shah is on a two-day visit to Bengal, addressing back-to-back rallies.

Campaigning in Bengal today, Home Minister Amit Shah canceled his first stop and delivered his speech virtually instead, blaming it on a technical snag in his helicopter. Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress claimed the “snag” was really a case of poor turnout.

“I was going to come here for campaigning. Unfortunately, my helicopter was damaged and I couldn’t come to see you,” Amit Shah said, addressing the rally in Jhargram via video from Kharagpur.

“My helicopter developed a snag but I won’t call it a conspiracy,” he added in an apparent dig at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who alleged last week that her leg was crushed by the door of her SUV when a crowd pressed into it in Nandigram, and called it an “attack”.

Soon after, came the rebuttal. Addressing a rally in west Midnapur, Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee said Jhargram was “easily” reachable by road. “Those who attend rallies in the afternoon in this heat, they don’t come to hear speeches. The home minister had a rally in Jhargram, he could not reach his meeting due to a technical snag. But the images I have seen from the rally where BJP national leaders are coming … local tea stalls in villages have more crowds than their rallies,” said the Trinamool MP, who has been targeted repeatedly by the BJP over nepotism.

The Trinamool Congress posted images of what it called thin crowds and empty chairs at the Jhargram rally site, which it said prompted the last-minute change of plans.

The party also sent photos from Mamata Banerjee’s rally in Purulia with the caption: “Crowd that doesn’t suffer ‘Technical Snag’. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee welcomed by a sea of crowd in Purulia’s Baghmundi.”

Amit Shah was to visit Jhargram, an important rural Bengal constituency, to launch a yatra to honour the role of Birsa Munda and other freedom fighters in the fight against British colonial rule. The BJP had spoken of a massive rally at Jhargram.

The Union Home Minister is on a two-day visit to Bengal, addressing back-to-back rallies as the BJP amps up its campaign for the election starting March 27.

The results will be announced on May 2.

Biplab Deb Says Amit Shah Shared Plans For BJP Expansion | Sidnaz Blog

Biplab Deb Says Amit Shah Shared Plans For BJP Expansion To Nepal, Lanka

Tripura CM Biplab Deb said Amit Shah spoke of plans for BJP expansion to Nepal and Sri Lanka (File)

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has run into another controversy over his remarks on politics and policy, and this time it is international politics.

At a BJP event in state capital Agartala, Biplab Deb said the party has plans not only to expand across the country but in neighbouring nations as well.

Biplab Deb said Home Minister Amit Shah has plans to set up BJP governments in Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The Chief Minister shared a conversation he said he had while preparing for the Tripura assembly election in 2018. The BJP defeated the Left Front government in the state eventually.

Biplab Deb said Amit Shah, who was then BJP chief, during a meeting spoke about “overseas” expansion after winning in all the states in India.

“We were talking in the state guesthouse when Ajay Jamwal (northeast zonal secretary of BJP) said that BJP formed its government in several states. In reply, Amit Shah said that now Sri Lanka and Nepal are left. ‘We have to expand the party in Sri Lanka, Nepal and win there to form a government’,” Biplab Deb said of the conversation he claimed they had then.

The Chief Minister said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress will be defeated in the state election to be held soon.

Biplab Deb praised Mr Shah’s leadership for making the BJP the “world’s largest party”. The Chief Minister said the BJP will change the trend of change of government between the Left and the Congress every five years in Kerala and emerge as the winner in the southern state as well.

Biplab Deb has often been caught on the wrong foot in the past. His comments in April 2018 that internet and satellite communication existed in the days of the Mahabharata were shared widely on social media.

“The Europeans and the Americans may claim that it is theirs, but it is actually our technology,” Biplab Deb had said.

Dinesh Trivedi Says PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah Friends, | Sidnaz Blog

Mamata Banerjee didn’t need a consultant to defeat the Left, Dinesh Trivedi said

New Delhi:

After his shock resignation from the Trinamool Congress today, Dinesh Trivedi said he “did not need an invitation to join the BJP” and added there was “nothing wrong” if he did end up in that party. He pulled no punches when it came to his soon-to-be-ex party boss Mamata Banerjee.

This afternoon, Dinesh Trivedi, who had been among the prominent faces of the Trinamool in Delhi, announced his resignation in the Rajya Sabha, complaining about the state of affairs in Bengal. There was instant speculation that he was on his way to the BJP, like several others who defected from the Trinamool ahead of the Bengal election in two months.

“Dinest Trivedi does not need to wait for an invitation. They are all friends, not from now. The Prime Minister is a great friend. Amitbhai (Amit Shah) is a great friend for many, many years. I could have gone…I could have just walked in. And there is nothing wrong. Tomorrow if I join the BJP, there is nothing wrong in it,” said the 70-year-old, not denying the BJP rumours in an interview to NDTV.

“If they (BJP) are welcoming me, which I heard, I am grateful to them. If everywhere people have accepted them, then they are doing something right for the country,” he said, using words sure to be a deal-breaker for Mamata Banerjee, who has been campaigning aggressively against the BJP and its leadership in the run-up to the Bengal election.

Mr Trivedi doubled down on his allegations earlier today about the Trinamool overrun by “corporates”, his pejorative for poll strategist Prashant Kishor and his outfit I-PAC, recruited by Mamata Banerjee to manage her election campaign.

“We formed the party (Trinamool) together. Mamata Banerjee, Ajit Panja, Mukul Roy, myself. That was the soul of the party. We even struggled for 5,000 to 7,000 to 10,000 to buy a ticket to go to Delhi. Today that soul, that aatma is gone. If you give 100 crores to a consultant…On one hand you say you are a poor party and on the other, you give hundreds of crores to a consultant,” he said.

“Mamata Banerjee didn’t need a consultant to defeat the Left? Gandhi never required any consultant? I am not demeaning the importance of that but they can’t own the party; they have become owners of party, they have become bigger than the party,” he remarked.

Was his decision linked to a communication gap with Mamata Banerjee?

Mr Trivedi said he was certain that the Bengal Chief Minister knew what he thought. “She also knew I don’t support this kind of culture…But there was no opportunity to talk. For example on the kisan (farmer protests) – I don’t think five of us got together and said ok, what should be done…It was just go to the well of the house…so everybody went to the well of the house. That’s not the way,” he said.

“In politics you cannot be a boss and a karamchari (worker). She always says I want to keep our head up. We don’t want to keep our heads down…we also need to keep our head up.

Where mind is without fear and head is held high…If mind is full of fear and head is in the gutter, then that’s not Rabindranath Tagore’s culture? My head, like hers, has been held high, but not with ego…”

Mr Trivedi is the latest to exit the Trinamool after a virtual exodus in the last two months. Another parliamentarian, Sunil Mondal, joined the BJP at the same time as  former Bengal minister Suvendu Adhikari. His brother, Dibyendu, also a Trinamool MP, may also jump ship.

Mamata Banerjee After Amit Shah Barb On Her Nephew: | Sidnaz Blog

Mamata Banerjee hit out at Amit Shah at a public in Kolkata.

Union minister Amit Shah and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee locked horns today in a fight that seems to be turning into a family brawl. On his day-long visit to Bengal, the home minister attacked her nephew and Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee, and Mamata Banerjee dragged his son into it. The BJP has attacked Abhishek Banerjee before. Mamata Banerjee’s attack was a full-throttled first. Neither took any names in the squabble over ‘B versus B’ — bhatija (nephew) versus beta (son).

“Modi Sarkar is for Garib Kalyan, Mamata Sarkar is for Bhatija Kalyan. She is wondering when she can make her nephew Chief Minister. If Dilip Ghosh had not fought here, she would have made the announcement by now,” Mr Amit Shah said in Cooch Behar, his first stop in the state today to campaign for the coming elections.

Hours later, Mamata Banerjee hit back at a public function with non-profits in Kolkata.

“They keep saying Bhatija-Bua. What about your son? We are bad just because we are in Bengal. How did he make so much money? First answer this. Didi is very nice. She tells the truth. But if you clash with me, you will crumble. (Didi so jo takrayega, choor choor ho jayega),” she said.

The squabble didn’t stop there. At his second programme in Thakurnagar in south Bengal, Mr Shah started his address with an attack on Mamata Banerjee and ended it with one as well.

“Due to some circumstances, my earlier programme here was cancelled. Mamata Didi became very happy. But elections won’t happen till April and I will come here again and again and keep coming till you lose the poll,” he said.

Mr Shah’s parting shot got an acerbic reaction from the Chief Minster. “We welcome him,” Ms Banerjee said, then added, “All the time he abuses Bengal. Come to campaign here. Don’t try and threaten me. I am not scared you. Didi cannot be forced to do anything”.

Perhaps picking a cue from PM Narendra Modi’s headline-making comment in his campaign rally last Sunday, Ms Banerjee said, “I am ready for the game”.

“I will be goalkeeper. I want to see how many goals you can get past me,” added the Chief Minister, who is seeking a third straight term in the state where she came to power in 2011, sweeping away the 34-year Left Front rule.
