Government In Process Of Setting Up National Bank

India announced National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) in December 2019

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said that India has committed budgetary resources for resilient infrastructure and is in the process of setting up a national bank for funding infrastructure investments.

Participating in a virtual session organized by the Coalition of Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) here, she said creating institutional structures, big thrust on monetizing assets, and enhancing the share of capital expenditure in central and state budgets were three concrete steps taken by the government for building infrastructure.

She lauded the CDRI and its partners across member organizations for organizing the International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure 2021. “India supports international collaboration on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure,” she said.

The minister said India has adopted a two-pronged strategy and while International Solar Alliance is in step with the global agenda of climate change mitigation, disaster resilience and adaptation are being addressed through the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

She said India announced National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) in December 2019 and it is the first-of-its-kind, whole-of-government exercise ever undertaken by the central government.

The session was attended by Ambassador of Japan Satoshi Suzuki, High Commissioner of the UK Alex Ellis, Ambassador of European Union Ugo Astuto, and Administrator of USAID Gloria Steele

Ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner Accuses Anil Deshmukh, | Sidnaz Blog

Param Bir Singh was transferred to the Home Guard this week.

Mumbai:

Param Bir Singh, replaced as Mumbai Police Commissioner over “unforgivable” lapses in the Mukesh Ambani security scare probe this week, delivered a counterblow of stunning proportions on Saturday, accusing Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of corruption and interference in police work. The explosive accusations – summarily denied by Mr Deshmukh – prompted immediate calls by the opposition for his resignation.

In a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray titled “untruthful statements by the Hon’ble Home Minister, Maharashtra”, Mr Singh said the minister had appointed several of his officers – including Sachin Waze who has been arrested in the Mukesh Ambani case – for running an extortion racket.

He said the Home Minister had asked several of his officers to collect money from restaurants, pubs, bars and hookah parlours, setting them a target of Rs 100 crore every month as recently as February this year.

The former police chief also said that the Home Minister had on several occasions instructed police officers on how to handle cases and file charges, often summoning them to his home to “bypass” him and other seniors.

Mr Singh wrote how at one of the briefings at Mr Thackeray’s home following the Mukesh Ambani incident in mid-March, he had “pointed out several misdeeds and malpractices being indulged into by the Hon’ble Home Minister”.

“I have similarly briefed the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra, the President of the Nationalist Congress Party, Shri Sharad Pawar and other senior Ministers also about the misdeeds and malpractices. On my briefings, I noticed that some of the Ministers were already aware about some aspects mentioned by me,” he said.

Mr Singh said the Home Minister had been “unhappy” with him for his resistance in filing an abetment to suicide case in the death of parliamentarian Mohanbhai Sanjibhai Delkar against officials in Dadra and Nagar Haveli that would have earned him “political mileage”.

“I take full responsibility of my police force. However, the instances of interference make it clear that the responsibility of wrongdoings may lie somewhere else – at the door of the wrongdoers,” Mr Singh said.

“On a collective appraisal of events that have transpired and what is being pointed out by me makes it clear that I have been made a scapegoat to divert attention from the actual wrongdoers,” he said, adding his transfer was “for extraneous and vindictive reasons”.

Denying the accusations on Twitter, the Home Minister wrote, “The former Commissioner of Police, Parambir Singh has made false allegations in order to save himself as the involvement of Sachin Waze in Mukesh Ambani & Mansukh Hiren’s case is becoming clearer from the investigation carried out so far & threads are leading to Mr. Singh as well.”

Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP said, “We demand Home Minister’s resignation. If he doesn’t, then Chief Minister must remove him. Impartial probe must be conducted..Letter also states that Chief Minister was intimated about this earlier so why didn’t he act on it?”

Raj Thackeray of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena said, “Mumbai’s former Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh’s letter to the Chief Minister is explosive. This is so damaging for Maharashtra’s image. The Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh needs to submit his resignation immediately and a thorough investigation too needs to be made.”

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut declined to comment on the issue, saying it was “a matter for the government to respond to”.

Param Bir Singh was transferred to the Home Guard and Hemant Nagrale was appointed the new Mumbai police chief on Wednesday in a fallout of the investigations against police officer Sachin Waze arrested in the case of a car full of explosives found near the home of Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man.

The investigation was taken over by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from the Mumbai Police after allegations emerged against Sachin Waze linked to the death of a man believed to be the owner of the explosives-filled SUV.

In an interview with a Marathi newspaper Lokmat, Mr Deshmukh had said mistakes revealed in the probe could not be condoned, so Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray decided to remove Param Bir Singh in the interest of fair investigations.

Even before Mr Singh’s bombshell, the investigation had become a huge embarrassment for the Maharashtra government, with the opposition BJP accusing Chief Minister Thackeray of shielding Waze, a controversial cop who was once a member of his Shiv Sena.

Discussed Human Rights Issues With Indian Ministers | Sidnaz Blog

General Lloyd Austin met PM Modi on his arrival in New Delhi on Friday.

New Delhi:

US Secretary of Defence General Lloyd Austin on Saturday said he had a conversation with Indian ministers about the human rights of minorities in the country as it was important for partners to have “those kinds of discussions”.

Asked at a news conference in Delhi if he had spoken with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about “violations of human rights especially against Muslim minorities in the northeast”, General Austin said, “I did not have an opportunity to talk with him about that. I did have a conversation with other members of the cabinet on this issue.”

“We have to remember that India is oaur partner, a partner whose partnership we value. And I think partners need to be able to have those kinds of discussions. And certainly, we feel comfortable doing that. And you can have those discussions in a very meaningful way and make progress,” he added.

Earlier, responding to a question from NDTV about whether he shared concerns flagged by Senator Robert Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, about “the deteriorating situation of democracy in India”, General Austin said human rights and rule of law was important to the US.

“You’ve heard President [Joe] Biden say that human rights and rule of law are important to the United States of America. We always lead with our values. As a democracy that’s pretty important to us. India is a democratic country and you treasure your values as well. There are a number of things that we can and will work on together,” he said.

General Austin is making the first visit by a top member of US President Joe Biden’s administration to India as part of efforts to forge an alliance of countries seeking to push back against China’s assertiveness in the region. He visited Japan and South Korea before arriving here.

He met PM Modi on his arrival in New Delhi on Friday and held talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. On Saturday, he met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. He leaves on Sunday.

“India, in particular, is an increasingly important partner among today’s rapidly shifting international dynamics,” General Austin said after meeting Mr Singh.

Ahead of his visit, he was asked to raise concerns about democracy in the country with Indian officials by the chief of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee

In a letter to him, Senator Robert Menendez pointed out that while the US and India’s partnership is “critical to meet the challenges of the 21st Century”, the partnership “must rest on adherence to democratic values”. The Indian government, he added, “has been trending away from those values”.

“The Indian government’s ongoing crackdown on farmers peacefully protesting new farming laws and corresponding intimidation of journalists and government critics only underscores the deteriorating situation of democracy in India,” he wrote.

“Moreover, in recent years, rising anti-Muslim sentiment and related government actions like the Citizenship Amendment Act, the suppression of political dialogue and arrest of political opponents following the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir, and the use of sedition laws to persecute political opponents have resulted in the U.S. human rights group Freedom House stripping India of its ‘Free’ status in its yearly global survey,” the US Senator said.

US-Indian relations have historically been prickly but China’s growing aggression in the region pushed them closer together under PM Modi and former US President Donald Trump. After US remarks on the farmers’ protests, India had cited the January 6 Capitol Hill violence.

Among other thorny subjects, General Austin said he did not discuss with Indian ministers possible American sanctions over India’s plan to buy long-range S-400 anti-aircraft missiles from Russia. “India hasn’t acquired the S-400 Russian missile system yet, so the issue of sanctions was not discussed,” he said.

Twitter Testing ‘Undo Tweet’ Feature for Paid Users: | Sidnaz Blog

Twitter could be working on an “undo tweet” feature specifically for its paid subscribers to let them recall their tweets that have a typo or some other error. The new development could be the company’s response to the much-demanded edit option that it has not provided on the microblogging network so far. It could also emerge as one of the reasons to convince people to subscribe to Twitter at a certain amount of regular charge.

Reverse engineer Jan Manchun Wong tweeted about the existence of the undo tweet feature that appeared on a subscription screen. It would essentially allow users to overturn a recent tweet. This is unlike the existing delete tweet function that completely removes a particular tweet from being visible to all Twitter users.

Wong has shared a screenshot showing the undo tweet feature. It hasn’t yet been provided to the public, though. She also suggests that it would be among the features that Twitter would provide to its paid subscribers in the future.

CNET reports that Twitter has confirmed the testing of the new feature. It is, however, unclear whether the testing is limited to a certain region.

Gadgets 360 has reached out to Twitter for clarity on the development. This report will be updated when the company responds.

Earlier this month, Wong shared a GIF that suggested an ‘Undo Send’ timer for tweets that would start as soon as a user presses the Tweet button and would last for a few seconds to let them undo tweet.

The arrival of the undo tweet feature may help people who usually get annoyed for posting tweets with typos. However, it isn’t something that could allow editing, which is highly demanded by Twitter users for quite some time but isn’t yet in its top priorities.

In addition to the undo tweet feature, Twitter has considered bringing new models such as Super Follows to let people receive a monthly subscription fee from their followers to send them exclusive content or newsletters. The company revealed its plans for the subscription model in a tweet thread aimed at its investors earlier this month.

Crude Oil Output Hits Four-Month Low In February, Says | Sidnaz Blog

Indian Oil Corp operated its directly owned plants at 100.8 per centcapacity,

The country’s crude oil processing fell to its lowest in four months in February, retreating from a near one-year high hit in the prior month hurt by higher crude prices and weaker fuel demand in the country. Crude oil throughput in February dropped 8.8 per cent year-on-year to 4.87 million barrels per day (18.62 million tonnes), provisional government data showed on Friday. On a monthly basis throughput fell 5.6 per cent. There is a variation in percentage change as February 2020 had 29 days. India’s Feb crude processing falls to lowest in four months. Fuel consumption in the country also fell to a five-month low in February as higher retail prices dented demand. Indian state refiners have been planning to cut oil imports from Saudi Arabia by about a quarter in May due to rising oil prices

“Relatively high prices have slowed oil processing,” Refinitiv analyst Ehsan Ul Haq said, adding “India’s recent decision to wean off Middle East crude will boost imports and processing as refiners will need more crude oil as the economy recovers from the impact of lockdowns.”Indian refiners operated at an average rate of 97.13 per cent of capacity in February, down from 110.7 per cent in the same month last year and from January’s 102.8 per cent, the government data showed. Refineries can operate at more than their usual capacity through technical alterations.

Refinery capacity utilisation dips as fuel demand eases. The country’s largest refiner, Indian Oil Corp (IOC), last month operated its directly owned plants at 100.8 per cent capacity, the data showed. Reliance, owner of the world’s biggest refining complex, operated its plants at 93.2 per cent capacity in February. On an annual basis, crude oil production was unchanged at 610,000 barrels per day (2.32 million tonnes), while natural gas output fell 1.4 per cent to 2.31 billion cubic metres, the data showed

Madhya Pradesh Woman Cuts Off Man’s Genitals During Rape | Sidnaz Blog

The incident occurred in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district, police said. (Representational image)

Sidhi:

A 45-year-old woman chopped off the genitals of a man, who had allegedly tried to rape her by sneaking into her house in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred in Umariha village, approximately 50 kms from the district headquarters, around 11 pm on Thursday, they said.

As per the complaint lodged by the woman, her husband had gone out of station for some work when the incident took place, Khaddi police outpost in-charge sub inspector (SI) Dharmendra Singh Rajput said.

“The woman was at home with her 13-year-old son when the accused (45) entered their house. However, thinking that a thief had sneaked in, her son ran to safety out of the house,” he said.

Thereafter, the accused thrashed the woman and tried to sexually assault her. However, she resisted his attempt for over 20 minutes, he added.

“In a bid to save herself, the woman picked up a sickle lying under her cot and cut off the man’s genitals. The woman then reached the police outpost and lodged a complaint against him around 1.30 am on Friday,” Mr Rajput said.

The police took the accused to a hospital for first aid, he added.

“After that, he was shifted to Sidhi district hospital. As per the doctors” advice, he was later admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Rewa district for further treatment,” he said.

The accused has been charged for criminal force on woman with an intent to outrage her modesty, house-trespass, criminal intimidation and others.

The accused has also filed a complaint against the woman, the police official said.

OnePlus Watch Pre-Orders Begin, Alleged Render Offers | Sidnaz Blog

OnePlus Watch availability is yet to be revealed, but the upcoming smartwatch has now gone on pre-orders in China. The latest development comes just days ahead of the OnePlus virtual event where the OnePlus Watch will debut alongside the OnePlus 9-series smartphones. Alongside the pre-orders, a render purportedly showing OnePlus Watch has surfaced on Twitter to suggest the design of the smartwatch. OnePlus Watch is rumoured to have an IP68-certified build and Warp Charge fast charging technology.

China’s online retailer JD.com has listed OnePlus Watch for pre-orders in the country. To book the smartwatch, customers will have to pay a deposit amount of CNY 50 (roughly Rs. 600), the listing shows. As a bonus, customers pre-ordering OnePlus Watch will get a CNY 100 (roughly Rs. 1,100) discount on its final purchase. The exact pricing details about the smartwatch are yet to be announced.

The listing on the JD.com site shows that OnePlus Watch will come with Bluetooth and GPS connectivity. Further specifications are yet to be revealed.

Unbox Therapy tweeted a render suggesting the design of OnePlus Watch. It appears to have a circular design and come with a patterned wrist strap. Further, there are two physical buttons on the right — one of which features the OnePlus branding.

The overall design of OnePlus Watch appearing on the leaked render looks quite similar to Oppo Watch RX. It is important to point out that both OnePlus and Oppo are owned by the same parent company BBK Electronics, and they were recently said to have merged their hardware R&D operations.

OnePlus Watch specifications (expected)

If we look at a previous report, OnePlus Watch will come in a 46mm dial size and have Black and Silver colour options. The smartwatch will also include heart rate and SpO2 sensors as well as include the IP68-certified build. It could support fitness-tracking features and may include a dedicated swimming mode. OnePlus Watch is also rumoured to have 4GB of onboard storage and Warp Charge technology to deliver a week-long power in 20 minutes of charging time.

OnePlus Watch was originally expected to run on Google’s Wear OS. However, OnePlus Co-Founder and CEO Pete Lau recently revealed that it will come with a custom operating system to provide a better experience over Wear OS.

OnePlus is hosting its launch event on March 23 where OnePlus Watch will be unveiled, alongside OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, and OnePlus 9R smartphones.
