Latest News Today – Windows 365 Unveiled, a Cloud PC Platform That Lets You

[ad_1]

Windows 365 has debuted to offer an all-new way to access a full-fledged Windows operating system from anywhere — using a desktop, laptop, or even a mobile device. Microsoft announced the debut of Windows 365 at its partner-focussed virtual conference Inspire 2021 on Wednesday. The new offering brings the concept of a cloud PC to reality and comes as Microsoft’s latest product for the remote working environment that became so common with the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic last year. Windows 365 is designed to offer a complete computing experience through a native app or Web browser on any device that has an active Internet connection.

Windows 365 availability

Microsoft said that Windows 365 would be generally available to organisations of all sizes starting August 2. It will be accessible through any device including a Mac, iPad, Linux, and even an Android phone. There will be two cloud PC configurations — Windows 365 Business and Windows 365 Enterprise. Pricing details are yet to be announced, though.

Windows 365 features

With Windows 365, Microsoft aims to offer an experience that looks, feels, and has the security of a traditional Windows PC but can be accessed through a native app or a Web browser. It allows users to access full Windows 10 (or Windows 11, once it will be available) directly from an app or using the Web browser. Users will also get access to their apps, tools, data, and settings from the cloud that they would want on their PC.

Thanks to the Microsoft Cloud integration, you will be able to access Windows 365 while switching between multiple devices and irrespective of the device, you will get the same experience. Since the service will run on the cloud, it will not result in any performance differences even when you move from a top-end device to a more basic one.

Although Microsoft already offers Azure Virtual Desktop to offer Windows through the cloud to enterprise customers, Windows 365 is aimed to provide virtualisation that does not require dedicated IT support. However, if a company has IT admins, Microsoft said that they could manage and deploy cloud PCs based on Windows 365 using the same tools that they use to manage physical PCs.

“Windows 365 is really going to make a huge difference for organisations that wanted to try virtualisation for various reasons but could not — maybe it was too costly, too complex or they didn’t have the expertise in house to do it,” said Wangui McKlevey, General Manager of Microsoft 365.

Microsoft mentioned that Windows 365 will support business apps, namely Microsoft 365, Dynamic 365, and Power Platform, among others. Microsoft Endpoint Manager will also be able to work with Windows 365 to let IT teams manage cloud PCs provided in their organisations and apply management and security policies remotely from their devices.

Windows 365 also comes with the Endpoint Analytics dashboard to offer analytics and give access to look at the Internet connection health across the network. Further, there is a new Watchdog Service to let IT teams run diagnostics.

In addition to offering remote access, Windows 365 is touted to be designed to address some of today’s security challenges using a Zero Trust architecture. The service comes with multi-factor authentication (MFA) to verify login or access attempts to the cloud PC using an integration with Microsoft Azure Active Directory. There are also options to delegate specific permissions such as licensing, device management, and cloud PC management using specific rules. Further, you can use Microsoft Defender for Endpoint for an enhanced security.

Microsoft also claimed that all managed disks running Windows 365-based cloud PCs are encrypted, all stored data is encrypted at rest, and all network traffic to and from the PCs is also encrypted.

The development of Windows 365 kicked off before the pandemic, with some references suggesting initial work started back in 2014. However, the coronavirus outbreak has helped Microsoft test the cloud-based service at a larger scale than it would have done earlier. The company also set the pitch for its new service by replacing Microsoft Office 365 with Microsoft 365 last year.

Latest News Today – Windows 11 to Receive One Feature Update Ever Year,

[ad_1]

Windows 11 was unveiled last month with a new interface, app icons, and a centrally placed Start menu. The rollout is expected to begin sometime later this year and will come pre-installed on new PCs. Windows 11 will be available as a free upgrade to Windows 10 users. It is currently available for testing to Windows Insider members. Microsoft has also unveiled the feature update plan for Windows 11 every year. It has confirmed that only a single Windows 11 big feature update will be rolled out annually, whereas regular monthly quality updates will be provided for security and bug fixes.

Microsoft has detailed the feature update and quality update rollout plan for Windows 11 on its official support site. The company confirms that “it will provide a single Windows 11 feature update annually, targeted for release in the second half of each calendar year.” This is in contrast with Windows 10 update schedule, that received two major updates every year. However, Windows 11 and Windows 10 devices will continue to receive regular monthly quality updates to provide security updates and bug fixes, the company says.

The tech giant also confirms that Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations, and Pro for Education editions of Windows 11 will receive 24 months of support from the general availability date. Also, Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 11 will be supported for 36 months from the general availability date.

Given that adoption of Windows 11 will likely be a prolonged affair, Microsoft assures that devices on in-service versions of Windows 10 will continue to receive monthly Windows 10 security updates through 2025, as well as incremental improvements to Windows 10 to support ongoing Microsoft 365 deployments.

As for hardware requirements, Microsoft said that it has worked with all major silicon partners, including AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm to ensure that Windows 11 can be deployed on most devices out in the market. However, the minimum requirements for Windows 11 are not as lightweight as Windows 10. Windows 11 will require at least 64-bit x86 or ARM processor, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Windows 10, in contrast, required at least 1GB RAM and 16GB storage.

Apart from the centrally aligned Start menu, Windows 11 also brings enhancements with multitasking and PC gaming. Windows 11 also carries new wallpapers, animation effects, and sounds to deliver a fresh experience. Further, the latest Windows OS comes with the updated Microsoft Store that has a lot of underlying changes — including access to Android apps.

Latest News Today – How to Download Windows 11 on Your PC: Follow These

[ad_1]

Windows 11 is arriving to deliver you the best experience that Microsoft has designed this year. The new operating system is promised to start rolling out as a free upgrade to Windows 10 users later this year. But if you can’t wait and are looking for a way to download Windows 11 right away, you can certainly take a short route and download the Insider Preview build of the latest operating system on your system today. This will let you experience Windows 11 ahead of its public debut.

Microsoft has not given any exact timeline on when we will get Windows 11 as an upgrade on our Windows 10 machines. Nonetheless, the Redmond, Washington-based company is expected to roll it out by as early as October. This means that you would be able to get the new Windows version on your machine sometime later this year — or next year — depending on the rollout process.

However, Microsoft has provided the Windows 11 Insider Preview to let you test the newest Windows operating system ahead of its official rollout. Here’s how you can do that.

How to download Windows 11 on your PC

Before beginning with the steps on how you can download Windows 11 Insider Preview on your PC, it is important to note that Insider Preview builds are specifically designed for testing purposes and are not meant to be installed on your primary PC. You would also experience some bugs and errors, and some of the features that Microsoft showcased last month are not a part of the Insider build. Still eager to get started? You can follow the steps below.

  1. Sign up for the Windows Insider Program by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program. And then, press Register and Sign Up. If you’re already a part of the Windows Insider community, you can sign in to your account and click Start flighting.

  2. Review the Privacy Statement and terms appearing on your screen and click Submit.

  3. Select Dev Channel from the Insider settings to download and install the current Windows 11 build meant for Windows Insider Preview and hit the Confirm button.

  4. Your machine will now ask you to Read the Microsoft Insider Privacy Statement and Agreement. Once you have reviewed the statement and terms, click on Confirm.

  5. Now, press Restart Now to restart your machine to get the Insider Preview build.

  6. After restarting, make sure you are connected to an active Internet connection. You can then go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click the Check for updates button.

  7. Your PC will start downloading the latest build from a Microsoft server.

Notably, Windows 11 has certain minimum hardware requirements that must be met to download the Insider Preview build. You can check out those requirements from the Microsoft website.

Latest News Today – Microsoft Issues Emergency Update for PrintNightmare

[ad_1]

Microsoft has released security updates for Windows users to patch a security flaw impacting the Windows Print Spooler service. The vulnerability called “PrintNightmare,” that was discovered last week, allows attackers to remotely execute malicious code with system privileges and install programs, make changes in the existing programs, and create new accounts with full user rights. Microsoft has brought the emergency patch for all major Windows versions — starting from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Windows Server users have also been provided with specific security updates to fix the critical flaw.

The list of Windows versions that have received the security updates to patch the PrintNightmare vulnerability comprises Windows Server 2004, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows 7, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. Microsoft said that the updates contain protections for the issue that has been recorded as CVE-2021-34527.

Since the Windows Print Spooler service exists on all Windows versions, the vulnerability has impacted all Windows machines. However, the security updates list is currently limited to a few versions initially. Microsoft said that it would update the remaining Windows versions soon.

Meanwhile, users on a Windows machine that is yet to receive the security fix are recommended to manually disable the Print Spooler service or disable inbound remote printing. The Print Spooler can be disabled by passing the “Stop-Service -Name Spooler -Force” and “Set-Service -Name Spooler -StartupType Disabled” commands through PowerShell.

Inbound remote printing, on the other hand, can be disabled by going to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Printers and switching off the Allow Print Spooler to accept client connections option. You need to restart the Print Spooler service for the change to take effect.

The PrintNightmare flaw was reported by researchers at Chinese cybersecurity firm Sangfor Technologies last week. It is known as a remote code execution vulnerability that could be exploited to run arbitrary malicious code with system privileges. The flaw exists when the Windows Print Spooler service improperly performs privileged file operations, Microsoft explained.

Latest News Today – What Will Windows 11 Bring for Your PC?

[ad_1]

Windows 11 debuted last week as Microsoft’s next-generation operating system. The new Windows version brings a revamped interface as well as a list of changes over Windows 10, including a centrally aligned Start menu and new startup sounds. Windows 11 also brings enhancements with multitasking and PC gaming. Further, the latest Windows OS comes with the updated Microsoft Store that has a lot of underlying changes — including access to Android apps. Windows 11 also carries new wallpapers, animation effects, and sounds to deliver a fresh experience.

On this week’s episode of Gadgets 360 podcast Orbital, video producer Shubham Raheja and I (Orbital producer Jagmeet Singh) discuss all about Windows 11 with host Akhil Arora. The new Windows version has arrived nearly six years after the release of Windows 10.

The interface changes on Windows 11 make it look similar to Apple’s macOS and Google’s Chrome OS. You’ll get rounded corner edges across menus and windows and updated widgets. But Microsoft has provided some changes to give its own flavour as well. These, for instance, include a Microsoft Teams integration and an all-new search functionality.

Microsoft has also done away with some of the clutter it had on earlier Windows versions and removed features including Cortana and Skype that were a part of Windows 10.

In addition to changes at the basic levels, Windows 11 includes support for Android apps that comes from the Amazon Appstore, which will be a part of Microsoft Store in the future. Microsoft has also partnered with Intel to bring its Intel Bridge runtime compiler to the new Windows version for natively running Android apps.

Windows 11 ARM Build Runs on OnePlus 6T, Mi 8, and More

Users will also be able to sideload APK files to install Android apps on Windows 11, although whether you’ll need to access the command line to do so, or if you will be able to install the app by just double-clicking on the APK needs to be confirmed. At the same time, it appears that the apps available on Windows 11 will not be able to use Google Play Services which will limit the functionality of Android apps on Windows.

Specifically for gamers, Windows 11 has DirectX 12 Ultimate, Auto HDR (first brought to Xbox Series S/X consoles, also from Microsoft), and DirectStorage. The last of those offers faster load times for high-end, AAA gaming titles. Further, gamers will be able to access Xbox Game Pass directly from their Windows 11 PCs.

Microsoft Office is Getting a Visual Refresh, 64-Bit ARM Support for Windows 11

Microsoft is also yet to clear the air on the minimum hardware requirements front and who all would receive Windows 11 as a free upgrade. The company did indicate that the new Windows experience will be available as a software update to people who have some of the latest top-end laptops.

Initially, Microsoft offered the PC Health Check app to let Windows 10 users test whether their machines are compatible with the new operating system. It, however, temporarily removed that app to address some feedback. People on Windows 7 and Windows 8 are also not confirmed to receive Windows 11 on their systems.

Latest News Today – Windows 11 Teased to Come With an Enhanced Touch

[ad_1]

Windows 11 launch event is still a few hours away. But ahead of the formal announcement, Microsoft has released a fresh teaser that hints at a new touch experience that would be a part of the next-generation Windows release. Microsoft has not yet confirmed the title of its new Windows operating system. However, the company’s teasers and the official invite for today’s event — alongside the fact that Windows 10 was the last iteration — suggested that the new Windows version could definitely be called Windows 11.

Microsoft’s Windows account on Twitter has posted the teaser for Windows 11. It carries a 10-second video that suggests the new touch experience as well as some new sound effects on the new Windows version. The teaser video also gives us a glimpse of the same wallpaper design that appeared in a leaked Windows 11 release last week.

The leaked release suggested an all-new interface on Windows 11, along with redesigned Start menu and refreshed icons. Some of the screenshots shared from the leaked Windows 11 release also indicated a new system-wide dark mode and a list of new preloaded wallpapers.

At the Build 2021 keynote last month, Microsoft CEO and Chairman Satya Nadella teased the next-generation Windows update and called it the most significant in a decade. The Redmond company also recently teased the startup sound of the new operating system.

The new Windows update is expected to have a plethora of updates for touchscreen devices and some specific underlying changes to better support hardware based on ARM architecture. Further, gamers are also likely to be served with some new Xbox integrations.

Windows 11 launch is taking place virtually through a livestream. It will begin at 11am ET (8:30pm IST) today.

Latest News Today – Windows 11 Now Official, Brings Fresh Interface,

[ad_1]

Windows 11 is now official. Microsoft’s new Windows operating system has debuted nearly six years after the release of Windows 10 that took place in July 2015. The update, which is being called the “next generation” of Windows, comes with a massive redesign over its predecessor, starting from an all-new boot screen and startup sound to a centrally-placed Start menu and upgraded widgets. Windows 11 also removes elements including the annoying “Hi Cortana” welcome screen and Live Tiles. The Redmond, Washington-based company is essentially aiming to counter the likes of macOS and Chrome OS with its latest operating system.

Windows 11 features

One of the most notable changes, which we already saw in a recently leaked ISO, that Windows 11 brings to the users currently running Windows 10 is the new interface. It starts with a fresh setup screen and continues to give a fresh look and feel across all core Windows elements. There are rounded corners on menus and windows that look similar to the recent iPadOS release. You’ll also see the Start menu at the centre that is aimed at providing a modern experience.

It is for the first time, perhaps since the release of Windows NT 4.0 that was way back in 1996, when we are not seeing the Start menu on the left side — now located centrally. The transition of the Start menu also brings all the default icons such as Edge and File Explorer to the centre. This new positioning makes Windows 11 more familiar to people who use macOS or Chrome OS. You can, however, change the position and bring the Start button to the left by going in its settings.

The updated Start menu also doesn’t include any Live Tiles that were a part of the menu in Windows 10. But to personalise the experience, you will see some recommended apps at the bottom. There is also a dedicated search button next to the Start menu to let users search across apps and preloaded functions on the latest Windows platform.

Windows 11 also comes with new sounds and alerts, including the fresh startup sound. There are subtle changes in terms of gestures as well. Additionally, you’ll get new themes, some new wallpapers, and an improved dark mode. Windows 11 also includes an updated widgets experience. Widgets can bring on front by swiping from the left of the screen or can be placed full screen. You’re provided with the options to rearrange widgets or resize them — as per your preference. You can also add or remove your widgets that can help you receive the latest news or weather updates.

For an enhanced multitasking experience, the maximize button now lets you split the active screens between multiple areas of the desktop. Microsoft calls this new experience Snap Layouts. These layouts let you simultaneously open multiple different screens on your computer just by hovering your mouse over the maximize button. Once accessed, Windows 11 also remembers your selected Snap Layout for multiple windows and keep them ready along with the apps you were working on there for future access directly from the taskbar. Groups created by Snap Layouts that can be used for future access are called Snap Groups.

windows 11 snap layouts image Windows 11

Further, Microsoft is improving support for multiple monitors and making it easier for users to work on virtual desktops. The latter looks quite similar to how you can add multiple desktops on Apple’s macOS. However, you can also use custom wallpapers for each of your virtual desktop on Windows 11 for even easy access.

Windows 11 also comes with an improved touch keyboard that includes GIFs integration from Tenor. There are also preloaded virtual keyboards that can be placed anywhere on the screen. Users can additionally use voice dictation support throughout the system. There are also options such as voice typing and voice commands to ease your typing. Further, there are several interface-level tweaks to enable an improved touch experience.

Microsoft faced challenges in convincing manufacturers as well as consumers to use Windows 10 on tablets for a complete touchscreen experience. Those challenges are overcome by bringing new touch targets and a number of underlying improvements that are a part of Windows 11. Resizing on a touchscreen has also been refined. The new operating system also includes gesture writing support, which has become quite common on mobile devices. Haptic feedback has additionally been added when using a stylus pen.

The new multitasking and touch improvements are something that Microsoft initially tried to provide through Windows 10X. However, since that dual screen devices-focussed operating system was never officially launched for the public, the company is now trying to put all of that — and more — in Windows 11.

Windows 11 also improves the experience for people using multiple monitors. This is something that has become a new normal for many users these days — thanks to the working/ studying from home culture at a large scale. Microsoft has also integrated its collaboration platform Teams within Windows 11 and added a universal mute and unmute functionality to help people make virtual calls with ease. Similarly, there is a Desktop Share feature to let users share their windows with people connected over a virtual meeting. You might miss Skype, though.

Microsoft has also enhanced performance for Chromium-based browsers. Further, there are specific enhancements for Microsoft Edge, including improved support for accessing multiple tabs and for machines with limited resources. The Edge browser on Windows 11 also comes with vertical tab support.

Alongside productivity-focussed improvements, Windows 11 has a handful of significant changes for PC gamers. These include support for Auto HDR and DirectX 12 Ultimate. Windows 11 also includes an xCloud integration to enable cloud gaming. Further, there is Xbox Game Pass access for gamers playing a list of popular games on their machines.

Microsoft has also improved its preloaded app store — Microsoft Store — on Windows 11 with new search capabilities and an improved design to give app makers a better reach. The company has additionally introduced a new economic approach, called zero-revenue share, in which it will allow developers to provide their apps through Microsoft Store without taking any commission. This particular change will come into place from July 28 and will allow developers to use either their own a third party commerce platform in their apps and keep 100 percent of their revenue. It’s something odd when comparing with the app stores offered by Apple and Google.

microsoft store image Microsoft Store

In addition to provide better reach and introduce new economics for developers, Microsoft Store has a revamped Entertainment tab to serve you with the latest media content — starting from movies and TV shows — across all major streaming services. You can also wirelessly cast the content you have on your Windows 11 device to your smart TV.

Microsoft Store has also integrated the Amazon Appstore to let Windows 11 users get Android apps directly on their computers. Further, Windows developers have been provided with the ability to have their apps available through the Microsoft Store no matter whether they are Win32, .NET, UWP, Xamarin, Electron, React Native, Java, or Progressive Web Apps. Microsoft also announced that Adobe Creative Cloud, Disney+, TikTok, Zoom, and some of its native apps such as Microsoft Teams, Visual Studio, and even Notepad and Paint will be coming to the Microsoft Store on Windows.

Windows 11 has also included various behind-the-scenes updates to deliver overall a faster experience. Microsoft claimed that the new operating system will receive 40 percent smaller Windows updates and those will run in the background to provide a seamless experience to users at the front end. The new version is also touted to deliver better battery life on mobile devices.

Windows 11 availability, free upgrade

Windows 11 will initially be available for testing purposes to Windows Insider members starting next week. It will also be available as a free upgrade to Windows 10 users later this year and come pre-installed on new PCs. Microsoft has also released the PC Health Check app for people to check if their Windows 10 PC is upgradable. It was speculated that the company would also bring the new operating system to Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines. However, Microsoft confirmed to Gadgets 360 that users with a Windows 7 PC that meets the minimum specifications could be upgraded to Windows 11 after purchasing a Windows 10 license.

In 2022, customers will also have the option to purchase Windows 11 at retail and install it on compatible Windows 7 devices. Microsoft has not brought any changes to its Windows SKU offerings — meaning that users would be able to pick Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro versions. This is similar to how Windows 10 was available commercially to customers.

Windows 11 minimum hardware requirements

Microsoft said that it has worked with all major silicon partners, including AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm. However, Windows 11 will not be as lightweight as Windows 10 when it comes to minimum hardware requirements as it will require at least 64-bit x86 or ARM processor, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Windows 10, in contrast, required at least 1GB RAM and 16GB storage.

Latest News Today – Windows 11 Launch Event Today: How to Watch Livestream,

[ad_1]

Windows 11 launch is set to take place today (Thursday, June 24). Microsoft is hosting a livestream of its next generation Windows event where it is expected to unveil the new Windows operating system. The next Windows update will be the successor to Windows 10, which was launched back in 2015. A recently leaked ISO revealed that Windows 11 will come with an all-new interface and animation effects. There will be an upgraded Start menu that comes at the bottom centre of the screen by default. Windows 11 is also expected to come as a free upgrade to Windows 10. Ahead of the official announcement, here’s everything you need about the Windows 11 event.

Windows 11 launch event timings, livestream details

Microsoft is hosting the Windows 11 launch event at 11am ET (8:30pm IST) today. It will be livestreamed online, and you can watch it live from the dedicated Windows event webpage.

Windows 11 features (expected)

Microsoft has not yet publicly confirmed the Windows 11 name, but the company has been teasing its “new version of Windows” for the last few days. The official invite suggested the moniker by showing a window with a shadow that has an outline depicting the number 11. Recently, Microsoft recently released a video teaser with the startup sound of the new Windows version. That video was 11 minutes in length, indicating the launch of Windows 11. Moreover, the ISO that was leaked online suggested the Windows 11 nomenclature as the successor to Windows 10.

In terms of features, the leaked build suggested that Windows 11 would come with a redesign treatment that would begin from its boot screen and continue on the desktop. There would also be the new centrally-placed Start menu. The overall interface would look quite similar to Windows 10X that Microsoft introduced for dual screen devices in 2019 and discontinued just earlier this year.

Apart from the new interface-level changes, Windows 11 appears to have new sounds. There would also be an upgraded multitasking experience through new split view options. Additionally, Windows 11 seems to come with an improved Microsoft Store.

Windows 11 is expected to be available to Windows 10 users soon after the announcement. However, a recent report suggested that the new Windows version may also be available as a free upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 8 users.
