Latest News Today – Xiaomi Takes Second Spot in Global Smartphone Shipments

[ad_1]

Samsung continued to reign supreme in worldwide smartphone shipments for Q2 2021, but Xiaomi gained the most, according to the last report by International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. Xiaomi moved into the second position for the first time, nudging Apple to third place in Q2 2021. Huawei’s decline in shipments and LG’s exit from the smartphone business, caused a slight shift in market positions this quarter. Overall shipment volumes grew 13.2 percent year over year, slightly beating IDC’s forecast of 12.5 percent growth. Smartphone vendors shipped a total of 313.2 million devices during the quarter.

IDC reports that Samsung shipped 59 million units in Q2 2021 gaining a market share of 18.8 percent becoming the top vendor. The South Korean giant shipped 54 million units last year in the same quarter. Xiaomi, on the other hand, saw a significant YoY increase in shipments with 53.1 million units shipped in Q2 2021 raking in 16.9 percent of the market share. This is a huge increase from 28.5 million units shipped in the same quarter last year taking 10.3 percent of the market share. The company has seen an 86.6 percent YoY increase in shipments.

Apple moved to the third position, IDC reports, with 44.2 million shipments and 14.1 percent market share. In the same quarter last year, Apple shipped 37.6 million units and enjoyed 13.6 percent market share. Oppo and Vivo took the third and fourth position in IDC’s list with 32.8 million and 31.6 million shipments, respectively. Both the smartphone vendors raked in 10.5 percent and 10.1 percent market share each.

In the markets where Huawei and LG are strongest (China and US), companies face different chances of gaining market share. In the US, IDC reports that Motorola, TCL, and OnePlus experienced year-over-year gains beyond what they have seen in recent years due to LG’s departure. In China, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and Apple continued to gain from Huawei’s rapid decline.

IDC reports that Chinese brand Realme saw the fastest year-over-year growth among the top 10 at 149 percent and more than three quarters of its volume coming from outside China.

Latest News Today – RedmiBook Laptops Launch in India Teased Ahead of Formal

[ad_1]

RedmiBook India launch was teased on Tuesday, July 20. The RedmiBook laptop models will sit alongside the Redmi-branded smartphones, power banks, audio devices, smart TVs, and fitness band, Xiaomi confirmed during a video stream. However, exact product details are yet to be revealed. The Chinese company entered the Indian PC market last year with the launch of its Mi Notebook models. It has not yet brought its RedmiBook series to the country. Xiaomi has introduced RedmiBook, RedmiBook Air, and RedmiBook Pro models in China in a range of configurations.

Xiaomi India’s Chief Operating Officer Muralikrishnan B teased the launch of its RedmiBook series in the country during the Redmi Note 10T 5G announcement.

“Last year, Redmi became more than a smartphone brand with a phone-plus strategy,” he said. “We have launched products that would complement your phone and your lifestyle, like power banks, earbuds, and smart bands. This year, we took a step further and ventured even into the smart television segment. And now, we have something very interesting coming up.”

Xiaomi introduced its RedmiBook series in China back in May 2019. It also recently brought the RedmiBook Pro 14 and RedmiBook Pro 15 laptops in both AMD Ryzen and 11th-generation Intel Core processor versions. However, the company has not yet introduced its RedmiBook models to the Indian market.

Earlier this month, a report claimed that Xiaomi is planning to launch its new Redmi-branded laptops in India. The company has, however, not yet provided which models will exactly come to the market.

Alongside the new RedmiBook laptops, Xiaomi is tipped to expand its existing Mi Notebook portfolio in the country with the launch of the Mi Notebook Pro 14 and the Mi Notebook Ultra 15.6 in India later this month.

Xiaomi is expected to be able to grow its share in the Indian PC market with the launch of its affordable RedmiBook models as there has been a pent-up demand for notebooks, thanks to the growing culture of work-from-home and remote study owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Latest News Today – OnePlus TV Prices in India Hiked Again, by Up to Rs.

[ad_1]

OnePlus has hiked pricing for its TVs including the latest OnePlus TV U1S series. While prices for some TV models have increased somewhat reasonably, others have gone up in price by 17.5 percent, or Rs. 7,000. The reason for the price hike is unclear but could be because of hike in prices of open-cell panels used by TV manufacturers across the globe, increase in the import cost of the materials required to assemble a TV, or even component shortages. This has led multiple companies to hike the cost of televisions being sold in India. OnePlus is among some of the companies that have increased prices for their TVs.

OnePlus launched its OnePlus TV Y series models in India in July of last year bringing a 32-inch and a 43-inch model. The 40-inch OnePlus Y1 was also launched in May this year.

Starting with the cheapest, the 32-inch model launched at Rs. 12,999 but its price was first increased to Rs. 16,499, and it is now priced at Rs. 18,999 which is a 15 percent increase over the last hike, and almost 50 percent over the launch price. The 43-inch model launched at Rs. 22,999 but increased to Rs. 26,999. It is now priced at Rs. 29,499. Similarly, the more recent 40-inch model launched at Rs. 23,999 but is now priced at Rs. 26,499. These are some of the smaller price hikes for OnePlus TVs.

Coming to the latest OnePlus TV U1S series, it includes three models — 50-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch model. They launched last month for Rs. 39,999, Rs. 47,999, and Rs. 62,999 respectively. Now, the three models are listed for Rs. 46,999, Rs. 52,999, and Rs. 68,999 respectively. That’s a whopping Rs. 7,000 price increase for the 50-inch model which is highest in the lot. The 65-inch model has gone up by Rs. 6,000 and the 55-inch model gone up by Rs. 5,000.

Gadgets 360 has reached out to OnePlus for clarification on the latest price hike on its TVs.

OnePlus is not the only manufacturer to increase pricing for its TVs in the past few months. At the end of June, a Xiaomi spokesperson told Gadgets 360 that the company witnessed shortages across the supply chain in the last one year that resulted in a “constant upward movement” in the pricing of the components used in smartphones, smart TV, and other electronics. Then from July 1, Xiaomi and Redmi TV prices increased by 3-6 percent.

In February, Gadgets 360 reviewed market data and found that TV prices in India increased by around 10 percent or more across all segments and brands. Realme increased pricing by up to 15 percent while TCL India increased the pricing of its TVs by seven to eight percent.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G Review

For those squarely in the Apple camp, the iPhone 12 is potentially Apple’s best pick against the Android army. It offers a large OLED display and significantly better cameras over the iPhone 11 — alongside the top-of-the-line SoC that is also powering the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Mi 11 Ultra Review: A Leap of Faith

OnePlus also has its OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro models in the premium segment to take on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and iPhone 12. One of the biggest advantages of the new OnePlus flagships over the competition is the new 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 camera sensor that has an ultra-wide angle Freeform lens on top. It helps enhance photos and videos.

While the OnePlus 9 starts at Rs. 49,999, the OnePlus 9 Pro carries an initial price of Rs. 64,999.
